I had this dishwasher in my last apartment. Does the third rack tower help? Mine did not have it and there was crud on the top of cups and glasses. I could order the tower but it was $25.00.
The dishwasher I had did not have the tempature boost. I wasn't fond of that dishwasher. The cutlery basket was half the size shown. I got an old Kitchen Aid basket to put in. |

Picked the apartment-grade dura wash with a whole weeks worth. Figured I'd take a couple pictures for ranking.
I'm not expecting much for the pots and pans, but at least I'll be pretreated for me to finish up later. And I must say I hate the racks on this machine out of any other dishwasher I've used. Lots of wasted space. |

Surprisingly, the pots and pans came out clean!
There's some crud leftover on top though, like on tops of things....no upper rinse. Used a Finish Quantum cube. They get foamy, but they seem to be working better than my old stalwart Cascade powder. Also added a 1/2 cup of vinegar to last rinse, since my rinse aid dispenser is broken (gotta love apt. machines). I do like the racks a little bit better on the GE/HP models. They're a little wider on top, glasses fit better. And they're a little longer on the bottom, where you can fit more down there. |

The last apartment I lived in before we built our house had a brand new DuraWash installed, except that the only option was a rocker switch to turn Heated Dry on or off. The silverware basket was basically a half version of the longer style in the OP's photos. Definitely wasn't that large fancy one with the handle that you have lol. It also didn't have the upper rack tower, but the nozzle on the lower pop-up tower had a slot that fanned water out instead of a jet that shot straight up. And absolutely no sound insulation at all, lol.
Oddly enough, the racks in recent DuraWash's like yours are actually the exact same racks in a PowerClean, except that the lower rack doesn't have a tower in the way of course, and the bumpers on the front corners aren't the round rubber type but are curved grey tabs that are also part of the brackets to hold the silverware basket on front, if of course you don't want it mounted in the door. And the upper rack has a dedicated wash arm and a upper shower as well. It's funny that the same racks can have completely different loading capabilities depending on the machine, because I feel the more recent model PowerCleans from '02-'09 are very flexible. I can fit more into my standard tub PC than I can the tall tub Maytag-Point Voyager because of the rack configuration. |

Interesting point, Murando. It could be dish/glass geometry too. My glasses barely fit between the tines of the upper rack, and only fit if there's large gaps in between. Huge waste of space.
But they fit perfectly in the GE racks. Both standard and "super" upper racks. A door mounted basket on these machines would greatly free up some space in the lower rack. Anyone catch that 90s era GE Profile silverware basket? ;) I've taken that thing to every apartment I've lived in ....since college. It's the best. |

After posting that last comment, I started to wonder where the basket came from, haha. I racked my brain and knew WP never made such a design. And yes, I have quite a few glasses that won't fit well in any dishwasher I've used, but they're too nice to just throw out. I think I recognize those three dark glasses on the right side of the upper rack, with the thick darkened bases? Target-Threshold I believe. :)

The DuraWash isn't a bad machine at all. The soil-settler system, while not as effective as the accumulator filter system in PowerCleans and Voyagers, is still enough to keep most grit from redistributing. It excels mainly in its heavier water use and sheer force of all the water being channeled out of the one wash arm. So long as all items are facing the center, the tower isn't blocked from the sides by a tall plate or platter, and the corners of the top rack are reserved for short glasses and containers, you will usually never have a spot left over. Their shortcoming is the lack of any sound insulation at all, where the tower spraying directly against the door doesn't help, and a motor that isn't the quietest in the world.

Yeah I must say, these DuraWash machines are 'slightly' better performers than the BOL GE machines they try to copy, that have NO filtration. The GEs do leave more crud laying around.
But....if the DuraWash is overloaded, or I leave any articles touching eachother, I'll still have bits leftover. And.....the fact that it has no chopper, but a small catch screen in the bottom...that needs certain periodic cleaning, is a hassle. It IS also slightly better than Frigidaire's BOL tower wash machine as well. Because of the sheer force. It's a decent machine, but I cannot say I'll ever miss it when I move out in Dec. |
