Sent a message to the seller

Since I live in Winston-Salem - these would be easy to get. The price isn't bad either. Hope I hear back from them. Will keep everyone posted. I had this exact washer in the early 90's and it was a good machine.

Amazing Find

I have always had a thing for the rear console controlled Westies. Might be that big clear easy to read timer dial that I find so awesome. Hope you can save em.

Three Belt WH FL Washer

Yay Bob Hope you can get the washer, these were pretty good no nonsense machines, you never wondered what it was doing or trying to do, LOL. I have boxes of parts for these machines if it needs anything.

The dryer would be a 1962-3 machine, these would have been the last slant front washers and dryer that WH ever made. The dryers worked well but had numerous weak points so they tended not to last long if used heavily, so hopefully this one will be a very low use machine and you will get to experience Total Electric Westinghouse Slant Front Drying .   John

Wonder if they had the matching washer to the dryer at one time. That would have been a cool set of Westy twins.

The last house we had was a "total electric" home built in 1969. It was ok until you got the electric bill. All of the homes in the subdivision were electric only. But towards the end of our stay there you'd see a small ditch running from the street to the house and a few days later it would be filled in. Then a few small pipes popped up on the roof. The homeowners were having gas installed.

Interestingly the builder offered solar water heating as an option. So quite a few of the homes had those huge solar collectors on the roofs on the front of the house.
A neighbor said that the systems were problematic at best and most just installed regular water heaters.

I was looking for the elusive LB6 to match my D6 "How Dry I Am" dryer. The slant front was tempting, but I'm good on dryers. I hope a club member gets them!

Gold Medallion Homes

combo52's profile picture

The house that I have in the mountains in W Va. is an all electric home built in 1965. When we bought it 30+ years ago it still had the original Turquoise Frigidaire appliances in the kitchen. The house had baseboard heat, but with no A/C we installed duct work and my brother and I made a heat-pump out of several old central A/Cs almost 30 years ago and it is still working well today. With new windows and some insulation upgrades [ and most importantly we only use the heat or A/C when we are there ] the electric bill has averaged only about $25 per month for over 30 years.

My business partner Jason found the Gold Medallion door knocker  for the house several years ago and I found a big round yellow sign that builders used at new building sites highlighting the GM award for their new homes. These items are on E bay all the time.

That dryer is like my mom's first one. Had it until she got the '73 Maytag set.

I love that video clip Classiccaprice. She kept her cool and rolled with it. Love that. The subdivision where I grew up in Brookfield, WI had about a 5th of the homes as all Westinghouse electric homes, with a little placard that proudly proclaimed them as such. Must have cost a FORTUNE to heat in the winter, I'm sure.

You would be surprised..

Electric heat is great, my uncle the electrician installed tons of it in the 60s and 70s, both radiant ceiling and baseboard, yes ,it can cost a bit more to run, but where you gain is ,it usually never needs any service, I know of several houses built in the 50s with baseboard heat that have never been touched and still work great, when you factor in the cost of keeping a heat pump or oil furnace running, electric heat gets cheaper and cheaper, another plus is its QUIET!!!

Keep in mind the heat pump MOVES heat rather than trying to create it as electric heat does.Less energy-effort is required to move heat than to create it.I would rather use a heat pump if you have to have electric powered heat-rather than the resistence heaters. The resistence unit for my place is something like 50-60Kw-that is like a dummy load for a 50Kw AM transmitter!Would rather move that heat than create it or convert it from the electric. The resistence heater for my place isn't connected-uses heat pump only-works just fine.
