The new Maytag Maxima series (now called Maxima XL) edged out LG and Samsung for the top spot, front- loading division. Cleaning, water and energy efficiency, capacity, and freedom from vibration scores are all Excellent. Noise and gentleness are rated very good.

They also noted these scores were achieved in a comparatively short 45-minute cycle---and mentioned the washer is made in America.

The Excellent score for vibration bodes well for peaceful 2nd floor installations.

These are famous for bearing failures

I have seen a few fail within less than a year of purchase, they may clean good...but not for long! Maybe the bearing is redesigned on this model but I doubt it.

If I were going to buy a brand new washer, I'd likely buy the Maxima. Made in USA is important to me. But I also like the LG-built Kenmore. Fortunately I'm not going to buy brand new anytime soon.
