The dryer probably has a blocked vent. Not sure on the washer.

The washer may be a Catalyst model.  If so, it's a direct-drive mechanism but there's a drain/recirculate valve involved.  Assuming the design is the same as Whirlpool's model, the valve recirculates by default, energizes to drain.  Could be a clog in the valve, or it may be intermittently not working.  Replacement part is available but kinda expensive.

I would put my bet on a transmission that is leaking oil from the top seal and the machine is barely spinning.

These were really cool machines, BUT the washer was way too complicated, these were easily the most trouble prone DDs ever made, I do not know of any customers that still even have one that works, I do believe that Kevin In California has one.

John, you've apparently forgotten my Whirlpool Catalyst refurb project July 2011.

Those guys are from the Dick Tracy cartoons. Flattop is the one guy, can't remember the other one.

Wow refurb

Nice job, DADoES - enjoyed that link of your restoration. And the semi-reliable electronic console might be the least reliable, long-term, but they're cool.
