Since we are about ready to move to a gas dryer I stopped in at the local appliance emporium yesterday to look at SQ gas dryers. While there, I considered getting an additional SQ washer as a backup. The salesman mentioned that the SQ washers were no longer "belt drive" and were now "direct drive". What does anyone know about such a statement? Is this true?

That statement is false. My brother just bought the AWN542 washer with matching dryer, and the washer is still a belt drive. So many dealers, if you will, are misinformed when it comes to Speed Queen, the best thing to do is contact Alliance directly via their webiste.

You know, I wasn't really believing that these machines were direct drive. I am very disappointed that the salesman simply doesn't know. This is a local family owned business that has been around since the 1940s (no, it isn't Ted's Appliances of Huntington). I know the owner so I may have to mention this to him.
But here is where my paranoia kicks in. If I can't rely on the salesman to be accurate, can I trust their "delivery men" to connect my new gas dryer properly?
