close up of the settings. Love the "modern fabric" choice. |

It came with an extra belt and this original parts list!
The seller was VERY close to her grandfather (the original owner) and it took her a year to finally decide to sell it. She has the original sales receipt (paid $260 something), owners manual and his list of any repairs he did on the dryer.... but she wasn't willing to hand those over. |

Good Save Kevin, I am sure the new owner will put it to use and give it a good home. This is almost exactly the same dryer that I restored two years ago, except mine is a 1953 and does not [ and never did ] have the script on the control panel that says [ Automatic Dryer ]. On my pair I also have the matching Suds-Saver Washer, mine were rescued by Travis in Missouri they sold to Dave L. and I traded him a 1988 Chrysler Turbo Convertible for the W&D pair. I have not finished the washer restoration yet, but I do look forward using these cool early Kenmore Automatics one day. |

I've been keeping quiet, but I'll speak up now.
Kevin was kind enough to get this dryer for me. I had been looking for a vintage gas dryer for a little bit now. When I saw this one, I couldn't turn it down. Thanks to Kevin for rescuing it for me. Hope to pick it up sometime in August. Thank you Kevin. |

It's beautiful. Can you guys explain the burner set up? Was the burner above the drum? Vent below? I in-vision them being very fast dryers. |

The gas burner was below the dryers drum on the left just like WP built 29" dryers are today. The dryer wile a good performer probably was not super fast, the one I have that is just one year older is just 25,000 BTUs and all the dryers that WP built till they redesigned in 1966 were not as fast or efficient as the the newer design. WP & KM did make up for this slower less efficient design by building and selling Hi BTU and Hi wattage electric dryers where the gas input went to 37,000 BTUs and the electric models when close to 9,000 watts of heating power. But I think this 1954 dryer is one model to old for the higher BTU burner and bigger fan, then again it might be one of the first ones the model tag would tell us.
This dryer will have electric ignition for the pilot and main burner, YAY. |
