Thanks WK78, You really see the quality difference when they are side by side with "other" units. Malcolm, Good point. I forgot about less-than 60 minute wash loads. That will be a special treat! |

If your water/sewer bills are like mine...you will notice the difference. Not to be a Debbie Downer but I find I use my front loader more than my SQ washer. Extraction is a big factor and water consumption is another. The SQ does wash well, yet creates alot more lint...I notice that in the dryer filters. And when I line dry. But this is my experience with my SQ AWN 311. Would I buy the washer again? Nope

Well I know that there are fans of the SQ toploader and I do like mine...but to a point. I have a Frigidaire built GE front loader that holds just as much as the SQ washer and I raised the water level on both machines...thank gawd it was easy to do on both. The water level in the GE comes up to the drum lip and I find that does quite well with washing and rinsing and lint removal. I use the front loader because of the extraction factor I get with it. The SQ washer basket hole pattern I find holds more water in the clothes. If I wash a load of towels in the SQ they are still holding onto a good amount of water. I then run the same towels thru the front loader in the final spin and let it do its thing. The front loader has much more holes in the drum and spins at 850 for about 6 mins . I usually get about 2 quarts of water out of the towels, they emerge from the GE much lighter and dry faster. And that's on top of the SQ washer spinning at 710 rpms.
The other ting I find that SQ washer does is leave residue on the load when the cycle is done. Now not every load has this happen to it, but if I line dry, and tis time of year I do, I notice it on the clothes. It's very maddening. The washer does have a filter. What it needs is a spray rinse in the last spin and that would make a difference. The first spin spray rinse is a joke. The washbasket is still draining and not up to speed. My Maytag washer did much better with rinsing with a minute spray and deep rinse. Now I am not saying that you might experience what I have, but this is my experience and opinion. And I am not going to steer you away from a front loader like a certain someone who thinks everyone has deep pockets and get into a pissing match on what type of machine cleans better...it's a just everyone has a preference. So that said ...if your water rates are high like mine are and they keep telling people to conserve and yet they bitch that people are not using water like they used to so they jack the rates up again to make up the loss in revenue. I love living here in Mass and we have abundant water resources yet we get screwed without a kiss, and not even a TV dinner ...lol |

nmassman44: I like your POV on MA and the SQ washer. Very enlightening. Water rates are climbing as well as the sewer portion of the water rate. That's the real problem here. |

As a dealer for SQ and having now sold several hundred SQ TL washers I think you will like your new machine, but I would never want to totally give up on having a FL washer in my home laundry.
Several things to consider, you can wash about TWICE as much laundry in a FLW as in the same size TLer, even though the queen size comforter fits in the new TL washer it is unlikely that it will do a decent job washing it or even turn it over once during the whole wash cycle.
TL washers are not that bad in regard to water usage if you PACK them full, but for smaller or partial loads they become a real water, detergent, bleach and hot water hog.
The only times I use a TL washer much anymore is when I can recycle wash water from another machine or if it has a Suds-Saver, I like using hot water and plenty of detergent to do a good job cleaning and TL machines just use too much wash water to only use it once.
What went wrong with your FL washer, if possible I would get it fixed and keep both machines, and best of all if you can only have one machine would be to get the Speed Queen Front Load washer. |

I made space so I could keep the front loader. Made up extended hoses for inlet and drain. I tested it out and it seems to work. Now I have a back up or something I can use to save me money. :-) paul |

Paul, you now have the ideal arrangement. I'm hoping someday to augment my Affinity pair with a vintage TL washer, and perhaps matching dryer, to handle certain items that I feel are better left to a TL where they'll be completely submerged.
You're in fine shape now. Enjoy your new SQ, secure in the knowledge that you have a water saving option with the FL if choose to use it. |

YAY Paul it sounds you will have a great laundry set up, I normally use my Hi-Efficiency Calypso and SQ FL washers with an older full TL washer like my Frigidaire 1-18 washer. I usually put a load of whites or shirts in one of the HiE washers and a load of say dirty jeans in the 1-18 and put the drain hose in the 1-18 from the frist washer, this way the jeans start soaking in the wash water and I usually save the first two rinses [ not the final if I am using fabric softener ] and then start the washer with the presoaked jeans. By doing this you can wash a load for only the cost of about 20 gallons of cold water for rinsing the jean load. |

The gray stuff on the tub is polishing compound IIRC. I would try something stronger like Goof Off and then run it through a few cycles. Maybe call Speed Queen to see what they recommend. |
