Why It Never Caught On ?

I have one exactly like this and while interesting I can see why it never caught on as it takes a lot of counter space and it is a little harder to place food in it and lift it out hot.

no rotating carousel. I still have one anciant nuke with no carousel, I rarely use it 'cuz it sucks. That rotation makes all the difference. My newer and cheaper turning one gets all the use. I don't know why this is italicized

I remember this model on display at the appliance dealer where I worked back in the day.

I Think....

....This design was a manifestation of the "Let's be DIFFERENT!" mentality that Panasonic got into from time to time back in the day. No one actually needed a Toot-a-Loop transistor radio you could wear on your wrist like a piece of Op/Pop jewelry, but Panasonic made it anyway.

They don't do that kind of stuff any more; too much Korean and Chinese competition that makes price, not uniqueness, a major driver. Too bad; a little giddiness is fun to see once in a while.

Looks like the cavity volume is pretty small too. Although for the majority of people as long as a plate or TV dinner fits then all is well.

I have one of those. I love it. Capacity is small, however, it sure garners a lot of attention!
