Note the machine with the white top behind the machine with the orange top. The profile of the white lid is different as is the escutcheon between the dials. Since this was in the period when magazine pictures were largely done by illustrators (Life Magazine being an exception), the illustrator had to be told to include this in spite of the ad talking about the Formica counter top lids. Maybe there were plans for an optional metal top or maybe the machine's design was not yet finalized when the ad was created.
