WCI comes up a lot here, always in a derogatory tone. There's a reason for that, most known for what they did to specific product lines. But it goes beyond that.
Link below is the most comprehensive history of White Consolidated Industries I've found. The Wiki is useless. Since 1986, WCI has been ECI, Eurotrash Consolidated Industries division of Electrosux. In the US they badge their products with the names they have acquired like Frigidaire, or with US brands which still exist but contract with Electrosux like GE and Whirlpool. The nameplate will blame WCI, Electrosux isn't honest enough to use their own name. Maybe they think it will still be worth something someday? My 1998 ElectroFrigiWhiteGenPool front loader still works. Not at all sure it would if I were an average 3.7 person household instead of 1.0. Bearings, spiders, you know the story. And 15 years is what we expected as a MINIMUM from appliances less than a generation ago. Closer to 15 MONTHS today. Can't blame that all on Reddig, maybe he was just ahead of his time. I have a Frigidaire fridge manufactured in 1998 that displays WCI as the manufacturer while my Frigidaire clothes dryer manufactured in 2010 bears Electrlux as the manufacturer. I just assumed that between 1998 and 2010 Electrolux bought them out, I had no idea they were all the same company in that time.
