This is a pretty interesting video I watched a lot when it first came out, and you may find interesting.

Person from Hawaii with a Maytag Dependable Care where the plastic was exposed to the sun a lot and had started to deteriorate. The repair work may not make all of it look 100% perfect again but it stopped it from getting worse it seems, pretty cool watch.

I don't know about this.. I have never seen a sun damaged agitator before. Is this washer located outside the home with the lid left up at all times?

And as for using Acetone in the confines of a washing machine tub, I'm glad the filmmaker didn't have spontaneous combustion start up in there. Acetone can do that you know.

I think that this damage could have been preventable in the first place.

I had the pleasure of going to Hawaii for vacation about ten years ago and absolutely loved it. The one thing I noticed though while I was there is that a majority of the homes and even some of the hotels had their laundry setups outside. They were under a roof of some kind but they were still out in the open air. Exposure to direct sun was possible depending on where the machines were sitting. I guess because of the year round moderate temperatures they didn't feel the need to have the machines inside.

I commented in this video back in 2010. I had figured that maybe if he had just left the lid down, when possible, that it could have helped the plastic. But that cover he got is still good for cabinet paint and such.
