The Add-A-Dish feature was a dig at the GE portable with the big dial on the front because once the lid was locked on that machine, the only way to open the lid manually was to turn the timer dial through the cycle and to the OFF position. Then the lid popped open. If you had filled the detergent cup, it tiped over and you had to refill it. I remember the friends in Jacksonville Beach showing my parents their portable GE dishwasher with the big dial on the front about 1956 or 57 and they mentioned that.
