I was discussing the Hoover Keymatics with a German collector. He thought that the 3224 and the 3226 were quite similar apart from the control panel. But I thought I remembered there were more differences than only the control panel. Can anyone tell us more about this?

Hi Louis, the overall external difference is purely the ROUND programme indicator as opposed to the TIMELINE on the earlier 3224, and turquoise cabinet. Very little difference inside other than an updated programmer module - to take account of extra keyplates required for Cold Fill only and Hot and Cold fill...

The main difference was the Programmer Wiring loom, the first keymatic 3224 had the lower terminal block sited on the baseframe, which was fine for access until the drum suspension wire dropped or worn and the drum dropped onto it and smashed it..

The later 3226 had the wiring loom and distribution block moved to the side allowing more clearence..

Heres the 3224 with the terminal block on the baseframe..

Thank you Mike!! Just what the dr ordered! Great to know that there aren't too many differences. I thought I remembered there were differences on the inside, but not to what extent.

Thanks again!

Louis

At least on Australian made ones, the early ones had cast iron pulleys for the idler pulleys where the spin belt turns the corner. On later ones these were replaced with a cheaper plastic pulley.
