Hello all. I am obviously new, so I will introduce myself. I am Adam, 23 years young and I'm from North Yorkshire. I am a person with aspergers, so I had a fascination for anything with a plug on it! I work at a large British electrical retail chain, people from the UK will know which one. My area is mda/sda and my responsibility is floor care. I'll be honest, I'm not an expert as some of you chaps are, but certainly no laymen, I am not your average salesman by any means. Favourite brands are my all time favourite of Miele, absolutely love the company.
In our household we have:
Miele washing machine
AEG integrated dishwasher
AEG built in multifunction oven
AEG gas hob
AEG canopy hood
Samsung American fridge freezer
Delonghi btc coffee machine
Sharp steamwave

I look forward to being accepted as part of the community and contributing anything I can

Hi Adam and welcome to the club, lots to see and find out, dont be afraid to ask questions however simple you may think it is - thats how we all learn, more questions = more knowledge!!

What was the first washing machine or spinner you remember in your family as a kid?

Mike

That's would be a Hoover Electron I think. There's a photo of me as a young kid playing with it! Didn't stand a chance for a older age did I?

I'm not sure what model it is, I think it's an 800, it's hard to tell. It does have a brown panel with orange accents, especially the timer dial. My nan had a similar machine. In later years we had a almond Hoover New Wave 1300.
More recently we had a Hotpoint WMA35 as a stopgap and the most recent is the Miele W3228

I just bought a Miele 3228 last week from Currys.
According to Miele they're exclusive the the Dixons retail group.
How long have you had yours, any issues?
Ours is going great so far.... way better than the LG direct drive that its replaced - that only lasted 2 and a half years!

welcome Adam

its a very familiar story, as a child just fascinated with anything electrical, and to meet new friends here has been life changing.

I suspect the machine your remembering is the Hoover A3110 electronic 1100.

I understand you loving the new machines, but sooner or later you'll be wanting to find one of these, be warned.

This isn't the best example around, but you can at least see if its the machine you remember. They were produced around 1980/81

Mathew

Hi Matt, yes it is a Dixon exclusive. Parents bought it last October/November, so it's coming up a year old. Touch wood, it is doing great, I shall upload photos at a later time.

Keymatic (Matt), this is the old one and there's little me! How I haven't changed a bit!
Loved that old machine

Welcome!

I just drop in and out when I'm genuinely looking for information and I'm more of a marketing geek. I stumbled upon this site when I was doing research for an undergraduate course and oddly enough detergents are one of the classics of marketing case studies.

Other than that, it's been quite helpful for trouble-shooting various domestic appliance problems over the years.

Always good to know that there's someone working in an electrical retailers that knows a lot about what they're selling btw!

I was definitely one of those kids that was into science, dismantled everything, loved science and technology and had to know how everything works.

Welcome Adam! Tell us, how did you find the site? I'm not much into vacuums, but thanks to friends, I have a central vac system. The longest hose is a 35 footer and I call that one Anna, short for anaconda. I love Miele washers and have a 1918 and a 1986. My earliest fascinations were with anything that moved whether it was the washing machine or the turntable on the record player or the water jumping around in a glass vacuum coffee maker. Laundromats were a corner of heaven for me.

Have fun!

I knew of the site for a while but have always been apprehensive joining, I always felt I would be late to the party, and not mix in well, but it seems a friendly forum
