Here's a Maytag Highlander Dryer I'm guessing from the early to mid 1960's.

Growing up, we had the matching washer/dryer except ours had the "blue" background instead of the gold. Halo-of-Heat!

We had the suds-saver on the washer and if I remember right, it only rinsed in cold water. The washer also had a black agitator with the chrome lint filter/fabric softner dispenser.

This looks like the match to Steve's 64 Highlander.

My grandmother had that exact dryer. It was fun to just push the button in and have it snap back out with a DING! when the clothes were dry. And usually the clothes were all dried perfectly. Machines today should be so simple. Oh I'm sounding crochety.

Steve, electronic sensor drying went even a little bit further back than this. Tomturbomatic will be able to tell us exactly when. And it may have been Maytag that first brought it to market, not WP, but then it could have been WP/KM
