Maytag front loading washing machine is 5 years old. When we moved, we did not use the washing machine for 16 months. But before we moved the dispensers were working. Now that we have it hooked up; the fabric softener dispenser does not come out in the rinse cycle as it's supposed to. When the load is finished there is water mixed in with the fabric softener dispenser.

We tried putting the washer on a rinse cycle with hot water (about 4 times) and still does not work.I also tried putting vinegar in the softener dispenser with hot water and still have the same problem.

Also when I put vinegar in the softener and the bleach dispenser. The vinegar was still in the softener dispenser and the vinegar (which was in the bleach dispenser).Dispensed the vinegar into the rinse cycle.I then thought to myself (when I did laundry earlier on in the week) why did the clothing smell like bleach when I used it for a load of whites.I then realized that my bleach was dispensing in the rinse cycle.

Is there anything that I can do to fix the problem myself. Without calling an appliance repair place?

When was the last time you took the dispenser drawer out of the machine and took it apart and cleaned it? From it sitting for so long any residue in the dispenser could have really hardened up and given you a blockage in the detergent tray somewhere not allowing it to flow properly.

And when you pull out the dispenser drawer to clean it, I'd recommend also scrubbing the inside top of the drawer cavity where the water inlets to the various dispenser compartments are located. Sometimes minerals build up or other gunk can impede water flow into and through the drawer.

Bleach is always dispensed in the rinse cycle - the first rinse, actually. When you do a Rinse Only cycle, the washer will flush both the bleach and softener dispenser.

I'd remove the washer top and check the mechanism at the front of the dispenser. Tberes an armature that moves the ow of water to the proper channel so everything is dispensed at the correct time.each is dispensed in the beginning of the first rinse.Sometimes, they go off track and need adjustment.

Maytag front loading washing machine;fabric&bleach dispenser

Thankyou for your responses. Before I used it I had already cleaned the dispensing unit. I did not try to clean the water inlet holes where the water comes out.I did check when the rinse cycle came on that there was no water coming out of the side where the fabric & bleach dispenser are located. Why would the bleach dispense into the rinse cycle? Logically you are putting bleach into the dispenser to keep your whites white !!!

Bleach kills the enzymes in the detergent so it's dispensed into the first rinse after the machine filled.
