There's also new HE top loaders from LG. 5.2 cubic foot (more laundry to explode?). With AccelaWash.

The actual LG branded model will be WT5680H*A - not on their website yet.

And that is EXACTLY what I knew was going to happen to get around the new water restrictions. Notice how it is classified as a 4.2 capacity now instead of 3.6.

and a 9 cu. ft. dryer?...really??

Wonder how they can claim a nine cubic foot drum for one of (looks like LG sourced unit) their TOL dryers? The footprint appears the same, hmm...

I cringed when I noticed the plastic container suspended by 4 rods. $500. is a lot of money for this "tinker toy".

John (combo52) or other dealer/repair types out there, have you had any first hand experience with the new KM/WP line-up of this design?  I'm interested in thoughtful impressions and opinions of these machines.  If the top picture is correct, these machines have a solid inner tub on the sides!  How remarkably retro!!! :)

Also, while not new to these machines, I am pleased to see more and more machines making a distinction between "cold" water (approximately 75 degrees) and "tap cold" (which in mpls. today is 50 degrees).  Does anyone know what temperature "cold" tempers the water to on these machines?

Tempered cold water is certainly a boon for those who wish to wash in mostly cold water and have the detergents actually work to get clothes clean!

I was looking at the page on the link from the top of this thread, and I wonder if this is one of those that has the lower water rinse. I was looking for a link to find a user/spec manual, but couldn't find it.

It seems logical that top load washers return to solid tub designs in an effort to lower water use. Seems what's old is new again. I can't wait till the reintroducion of the lint ejector tube and recirculating water lint filter.

Simpson modified their standard top loader design to a solid tub with a recirculating pump in an attempt to save water but the design sank without trace Does anyone else remember this or do I just double the dose of the little blue pills and lie down for awhile?

My Fisher & Paykel washers have a similar suspension design and they haven't failed.  One of them is 14-1/2 years old, I used it this afternoon.

"Cold/Tap Cold"

ptcruiser51's profile picture
Before I left THD and my appliance career, my three factory reps told me the same thing (MYT, GE, LG). "Cold" is tempered with the addition of warm water thru the valve to about 65F degrees to allow for correct dissolving of powdered detergent and additives. According to them, liquid treatments did not need this option. Where I live (SoFL), the tap water is usually warm enough to dissolve above-mentioned powders, even in winter. Also true for the SoWest USA. In NJ or its enviorns, "tap cold" is apt to be just short of freezading! Some newer models have a "cool" selection which accomplishes the same thing.

Recirculating Simpson

We had one of them. There was the standard inner tub like any top-loading machine. The outer was also present. In order the save water, a pump kept the water out of the outer tub in order to save a couple of litres of wash water.
Unfortunately, Simpson only used a cheap linr filter design, resulting in numerous complaints. On ours, that pump stopped working. The machine never threw as the beeps and errors it should have, so I have no clue what really happeed. When it was replaced last October with the Miele, I wanted to open it. We gave it away before I had the chance. I do wander if that washer is still doing its horrid thing somewhere...

I see drain holes in the tub at the bottom of picture #2. I think it is standard drain. Kenmore.. How did we get off in this solid tub thread? I am confused. I think the thread indicated solid steel has to do with the rod attachment points, on the outter tub, not the inner tub? i could be wrong? I think the side spiral holes in the inner tub are just not in the pictue. Either way i do not feel compelled to run out and purchase one. alr

New VMW belt drive washers

Are complete garbage in my eyes! They perform very poorly in terms of cleaning, they are noisy, constantly go off balance, have cheap plastic parts and apparently, cheap bearings!

Here is a video of a 2 year old, that's right 2 YEAR OLD Kenmore belt drive that already has bad bearings, come on! That's worse than the amanatag's...I'd rather wash my clothes in the sink than buy one of these. If you buy one of these your just asking for a headache!

Norgechef - that's SAD!!

I mean, Good God......I still wonder what companies are thinking making such crap that will ultimately give them a horrible name.
