How did one program this Kenmore washer for Super Wash? Was there an equivalent Whirlpool washer? A cousin had this Kenmore set that they kept for over 20 yrs. It was on their screened in back porch sheltered from the north wind. They never rusted. I am not certain if the dryer was gas or electric. Think it had the lint storage system. The roto-swirl agitator had a vinyl nubbed cap.

Here is a page from the service manual describing how the special features "program" the machine.

Here is the cycle chart from the schematic:

The page shown is only part of the illustration and only part of the control panel. This question came up long ago and someone posted the other page with the rest of rocker switches shown. It's like Sophia's answer to the question about how did somebody get a picture of Blanche's behind, "They must have used a wide angle lens." This Lady Kenmore's control panel was just more than could be shown on one page.

This is the only pic that I have of the full console, but you can get a little bit better perspective of it from this.

1960 LKM Super Wash

This cycle was not like WPs later SW cycle, on the LKM it gave two complete washes back to back with liquid detergent automatically dispensed in both washes.

The reason these machines never rusted was because the entire cabinets of both the washer and dryer were completely finished in PORCELAIN ENAMEL, I think only one other appliance maker ever did this, who can name the other company that did this on their TOL models.

I've worked on the most complex video eqpt from the 70s-90s and this is WAY too much complexity for a simple (wash-rinse-spin) function. Like the 'fast forward' timers of an adjacent era.

Scotty: The more they overthink the plumbing, the easier it is to stop up the drain.

Ya don't want yer drain stopped up, do ya?

Because Hotpoint washers used the cabinet as the water collector like the early Frigidaires, they were porcelain, too. There was a lot of porcelain in Hotpoint's TOL water dryers, but I don't know if the whole thing was porcelain.

Mark---Thanks for all the great info on this Lady K. I grew up with the Model 80, which lacked the Super Wash feature as well as the detergent dispenser. Does anyone in the AW family have one of these rarities in their collection?

1960 LKM Washer

Hi Eugene, I rescued one of these washers about 40 years ago and it now resides in Greg's collection in Nebraska, Greg also has a never used [ until he got it ] matching Electric dryer for this washer. The 1960 and 61-2 LKMs are the two rarest LKMs, Greg's 60 is the only one known and to my knowledge there are no 61-62 LKMs know to exist, the hunt goes on in the New Year

Happy Holidays Everyone John L.
