I hope these are at least 20 years old, otherwise I'm in the wrong forum. What vintage are these? Nice matching set, regardless...and are they Norge? The lid style looks a little suspect...

Westinghouse

Curved lid gives it away. Could still be fun, though! The dryer could go right into the trash. ;-)

That's kinda what I thought. I think they had the dreaded indexing tub that makes me so dizzy trying to watch the action!

Indexing tub for sure, but it might be old enough to have a porcelain-on-steel tub instead of a plastic tub. I'm guessing that it has a straight vane agitator and not the ramp style, but I could be mistaken. In the mid '90s I had a roommate who had the Westinghouse version of that set. The washer actually did okay, but the dryer was pants. Its capacity was too small and large loads dried somewhat leisurely.

Did Westinghouse ever have a straight vane agitator? I've only ever seen the ramp units in them.

I see that they're badged as MW's but they definitely have that Westy flair!

westy agitator

straight vane pretty common-might be what all the Westinghouse built WCI"frigidaire"came with as that is all I have seen in those.A new Laundromat that opened in 1982 was all white Westinghouse and as I recall the agitators were black though I don't remember if they were ramp or straight vane.A third washer supplier for monkey wards in the '70s and '80s was franklin:plastic inner and outer tubs, indexing, and 5-vane "angel wing"agitator-cheaply made but tough washers,i have an '89 in my "rotation"lineup-has a unique sound I enjoy when it is"rotated in":straight cut iron tranny gears, the sprag clutch, and the pump thrashing water running in reverse(agitate)direction

Everybody, please - if you're going to post machines FS, put up a photo, so that people searching threads in the future will have that instead of just discussion that is meaningless to many people without a visual.

My apologies, danemodsandy -- I'm a little techno-challenged and thought the link to the posting on Craigslist was good enough. I did not intend to offend/confuse/upset anyone on this site. (BTW, I love your Ruth Gordon avatar -- from "Rosemary's Baby?")

Not Offensive at All!

It's just that the Craigslist ad will disappear sooner or later, leaving a dead link.

In weeks/months years to come, when someone is searching for info on late Westys or Norges, there would be some tantalizing discussion, but no pic because of the dead link. By posting the pic, the info is complete in AW's Archives.

It's easy to post a pic. You right-click the photo in the CL ad and select "Save Photo As." Give it a name and put it into any folder you please. Then, when you post, scroll down under the text box and look where it says, "Upload JPEG Format Picture to share in message:" Under that is a button marked "Browse." Use that button to navigate to the folder where you saved the photo, and click on the photo name in the folder. Now click on the "Preview Message" button at the very bottom of the page, and your message will preview with the photo in it. Approve the preview, and it's all done.

Hope this helps, and again, it's not a problem, just a hope that we can have an Archives that is really helpful.

It looks like the White Westinghouse metal/indexing tub. It has a straight vane elcheapo agotator with a pull up agitator filter. It was the bottom feeder and Wards salesmen hated it.They would lower the price of a Norge built model and lose money on their commission but get fewer complaint calls.

OMG...MY DREAM SET!!!!!! This has the straight vane agitator for sure. Westinghouse made some great washers. The dryers were ok but lacked drying power due to the small capacity. The indexing tub is what stole my heart, and it cleaned WELL!!!!! If this was near me, i would certainly purchase it.

My family had these in the 80's. Our dryer was small, and not too poor on drying performance as I recall but maybe that was because it was gas?....

window lid

some of the earlier WCI"frigidaire"westys had a window lid to mimic the 1-18 GM Frigidaire washers.
