Thanks again to Greg (gansky1) who provided me with two more informative GE service manuals that I just added to the Ephemera Libray.
First up is the 1957 Mobile Maid dishwasher service manual, this is the first Mobile Maid service manual I've seen. Next is the manual to all 1974-1977 GE Potscrubber Dishwashers. I've also been adding parts catalog for KitchenAid dishwashers, I've got the: KD-21 Series, KD-20 Series, KD-19 Series all loaded for reference. I will get earlier catalogs 18 Series, 17 Series, 16 Series, 15 Series, etc. up soon. |

OK the KitchenAid Dishwasher 17 series parts catalogs are now posted and in the library. There are three documents:
one for the 17 Series, from 1972 one for the 17A Series, the updated machines from 1974 and finally the top loading 7 Series portables. |

Great! I just bought a top-loading Kitchen Aid dishwasher today! So I had to download the related document!
It will need a new Formica top.
I hope I'll find something close to the original! I haven't even looked at the model number but it's a basic Electra and it has a brown background for the controls and no handle like the older ones so I'm guessing it's pretty close to the KDC-7. Paul has a very similar one but if I recall correctly, it has a blue background for the controls and a handle at the front.
Can anyone show me what kind of Formica top it should have (part # R-82312-1 ?). It's missing on mine! |

....The 15-Series parts catalog, and all I can say is....
WOW! This marks the first time I've been able to realize a long-cherished goal with a vintage appliance: Having a complete literature set for it. Thanks to Automatic Ephemera, I now have the sales brochure I would have selected my KDS-55 from. I have the installation instructions. I have the owner's manual. I have the service manual that a KitchenAid service tech would have used to repair it, and the parts catalog he'd have used as a reference when requesting parts. Courtesy of Fred Nelson, I even have the conversion instructions to turn this portable/convertible into an undercounter machine, plus an update bulletin advising techs of the new rack bumpers that were made available later on. This expands the pleasure of owning my dishwasher enormously - it's actually a higher level of service than I'd have received as a new-appliance customer back in the day, because consumers didn't have access to the service stuff back then. I'm working on having this kind of literature for all my appliances, but it takes time, because Automatic Ephemera depends on the kindness of collectors here who share rarities with Robert for scanning and posting. I appreciate the generosity of whoever lent the items I now own in PDF format, and hats off to Robert for all his hard work! Keep those obscure documents coming, folks! They make a lot of difference. :) This post was last edited 01/22/2014 at 18:34 |

Sandy,
Do you have a picture of what these bumpers looked like? I don't appear to have any kind of bumper on my racks and I'm wondering what they did. I had a pesky leak on my 15 that I suspected had to do with the door seal. I replaced the seal with one that was better than mine and that didn't help. I tried to get the Latch off so I could put a shim or two in and tighten the seal. However, no matter what I did I couldn't get the screws off and I didn't' want to strip them so I went a different route to prove my theory. I bought some thin waterproof weatherproof seal like you would use on a door. I put that on over the gasket and viola, no more leak. So , I wonder if these bumpers had anything to do with the water hitting the door like they have on the later KA models in the front corners. |

The TSB for the bumpers (originally posted by Greg gansky1; not Fred as I erroneously remembered - credit where credit is due!*), is below.
John combo52 tells me they were also available for the 15-series. The TSB does mention that the bumpers are also intended to serve as water deflectors to prevent water splash-out at the bottom corners of the doors. I don't know if they were available for series other than 15 and 16; common sense tells me that if they worked, they were probably fitted to other models as standard equipment, not as a TSB item. * Fred was the one who posted the conversion instructions to turn a convertible/portable KA into an undercounter machine, for which I was and remain grateful. |
