Hmm, lived in Cleburn. Well, Amtrack stops in Cleburn on its way to & from Dallas/fort Worth. And to think I was soo close to a great condition looking Maytag AMP. I'm so amazed there isn't hardly any visible rust on the lid underneath like I"ve seen with some of these models. GOO AUSTIN.

The perfect dormroom accessory.

You should want this machine - an AMP on casters will be ideal for college, your first apartment...

OHMYGOSH, Austin ... GO FOR IT!! I can't WAIT to get mine done this spring!!

And this one is on wheels, no less; you can set it up as a "portable". :-)

Isn't Colleyville just outside of Dallas?

Good luck Austin, It looks like a beautful AMP. I am just wondering about the casters, just wonder if this was orginal or added on? Terry

Casters ~

Terry and Austin --

I've seen these as 'add-ons' mentioned in the Sales Lit for these early 'Tag Auto's. There were two versions from what I've seen, the first was for the original AMP - in which 4 individual casters replaced the feet for portability.

The second version is an actual dolly-like lift, as pictured on the machine in this auction. I would imagine that you pull the lever towards you to lift the machine up to move to move around the machine with the dolly, and push away to lower the machine down for use.

I've only seen a drawn picture of what they look like - it is so cool to see one survived! This machine would be quite the score Austin - I'm rootin' for ya!

Thanks so much for the information Ben. I was thinking that if it were added on they sure did one hell of a job! Terry

Here is a scan from the Maytag Auto Washer parts book, of the dolly cart. It appears its official name is the Porta-A-Washer ------ hummm, doesn't that sound familar? Go get it Austin!

Thanks a lot guys for the encouragement. I'm truly amazed it's in as nice of cosmetic shape as it is, especially for its age and the fact that it's a Texas machine. As far as the mechanical condition, I'll have to keep my fingers crossed as pictures do not reveal if it's leaking oil or not; it may look nice on the outside, but under the cabinet and top is a greasy, seized-up mess...you never know.

Ben--thanks for the information about the casters/dolly; it appears to have bolted on the base of the machine which is interesting. Definitely nice when jockeying it around a cramped (U of Texas I hope) dorm...also enables it to serve as a nice nightstand when it's not wheeled in the bathroom washing, right Greg? ;-)
