have had wringers in the past but never did more than just a clean up on them. found this for 40 bucks and the guy brought it over to the house. this thing has been sitting for over 20 years on a patio with a plant in it ugg but what ever. guess its just a good test for me to see what I can do. haven't gotten into it yet but I do know it will need new wheels for the legs and prob new rollers and a really cool red agi and not sure about the motor. what my question right now is how are the trans on these to work on im wondering if the trans is locked up cause I cant get the agi to turn even with the pull know pushed in?

i'm not too knowledgable on washers but, i don't think that was the right agitator for this washer? i could be wrong, but i'm just guessing, that it's not the right agitator cuz of the filter holes in the "stem" of the agitator. but i could be wrong. i'm sure someone who knows, will chime in & tell us.
by the way, nice looking vintage maytag wringer washer you have there!! it looks like it's in pretty good condition!! |

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, DO NOT BREAK APART THAT AGITATOR!
That is a very rare agitator, very hard to find these days and if you don't want it, I can guarantee you somebody will want to pay significant bucks for it.
Cover it with lots of towels, especially around the base and keep filling the tub with boiling water. Allow the thing to soak and warm up for many minutes, then when it is cool enough to handle, try pulling it out. |

It's nice to see I am not the only one that caves to the pressure of vintage appliances on Craigslist! |

well at this point I have a feeling the machine really is trash for what it would cost to buy even used parts I can just buy another one. what I want to do I is find another one and then take this one totally apart to learn.. then once I know for sure its trash out comes the saws all.. I guess is should have taken a pic of the agi but trust me it was split all the way down even if I could have used a puller or some sort of inflate a bag under it it would have split in half anyway so fret not my pets it was already toast.. I never just destroy anything good just for kicks..
