This has been listed going back to at least last summer IIRC. Seeing it again today brings up a question for our refrigeration experts here. The ad states runs but needs recharging. Obviously that indicates it has lost freon due to a leak. If it were recharged it would leak out again unless the leak were found and repaired. Is this possible? The leak could be anywhere throughout the tubing. Back when this unit was new would a leak repair have been attempted by the factory/dealer or would it have just been replaced? I have a 58 GE with the same condition and wonder if it could be repaired or if I should just consider it a good parts donor?
Anyway, maybe someone here would be interested in it. Circa 1954 Hotpoint refigerator/freezer. One of the first two-door models made. Very good physical condition. Runs, but needs recharging. Could be repaired for actual use. Has been almost entirely indoors. Great for a retro look (have other appliances too) or just as great conversation piece. $115, OBO. Measures apx., 31" (W) X 25" (D) X 65" (H). E-mail responses or call (TEXT). Thanks. CLICK HERE TO GO TO ken's LINK on Hudsonvalley Craigslist |

I responded to the leak issue in the other thread started in Super.
Personally, I don't care for the blue & yellow interiors from this period so would not go to the trouble this fridge would require. Working models of similar vintage and design are still out there, often in this same price range, and with nice clean white interiors.
I think destiny for this fridge can go in a couple of directions: 1) Parts donor or 2) Into the hands of a skilled refrigeration tech who offers the best chance for repairing it as well as access to the necessary parts (particularly refrigerant) and equipment to perform the work. |
