I have been wondering what brand of washer and dryer are in the background of the movie the exorcist?  and in the 1979 bounce fabric softener commercial both found on you tube.  I am guessing WCI  Gibson, Kelvinator, Franklin, or Hamilton?  Any one else able to figure these out? Both Dryers are similar door styles

this Tide commercial features an AMC washer....has anyone seen one of these models?.......

funny too in these commercials, they may show the whole washer in the commercial, but as they pour in the product an agitation begins, the insides don't seem to match that style...wonder why that is?

also remember when they did pack a whole box of detergent in a new machine......today you get nothing, in fact, you have to buy hoses seperate for many machines...

The dryer looks like a Hamilton w/o the window.

WASHER & DRYER Brand

WCI 1970s junk, this was when WCI laundry appliances often did not work even when they were new out of the box. My brother Jeff hooked up a new dryer like this and when he hit the start button the entire machine violently started walking across the floor, this with no clothes in it, and yes I said dryer, not washer LOL.

Dryer fabric softeners originally came out in an airasol spray can, they even still used Freon style fluorocarbons. these sprays were supposed to be sprayed on the circumference of the dryer drum before the clothing was added to the dryer, but most people just sprayed them directly into the dryer drum.

These sprays literally DESTROYED hundreds of thousands of dryers, they caused severe rusting of dryers that had painted drums and bulkheads [ which is what prompted WP and other companies to start powder coating dryer drums ],and clogged air passages and fires in all types of dryers, for years after and though this day most dryer fabric softeners say on the label that they won't harm dryers when used according to instructions. Owners manuals for dryers also usually state [ if you use a softener in our dryer be sure it is labeled as being safe to use in a dryer ].

There were a lot of problems with products like Cling-Free, the Cling-Free paid for a lot of dryer repairs and even replacement dryers in the late 1970s into the 80s.

Great commercials - loved the mock panel over the Frigidaire washer the "factory" is packing Tide boxes in.

Hope someone can definitively solve the question about the exorcist washer/dryer. I have been trying to find out what they were for years....

Exorcist washer and dryer - same maker as the pair at the top of the thread.  WCI-Franklin machines.  Late 60's or early 70's, a couple have shown up in the forums here.  Eddy in Vancouver has Viking branded version of one.

Here's a crooked scan of a Gibson washer & Tide

What The Exorcist really needed to EXORCISE!!!!

Gibson & Kelvinator had pretty fancy dash boards, but the most inconvenient lint filter design (to the point where they should have gone S-C!)...!

And unfortunately the reliability & likelihood of it quickly going out to the curb, when these fancy-shmantzy washers could no longer actually WORK, could never out-last any of that glitz & glitter, in which this stuff was just for show...!
