hi everyone, I am new to this forum. I am on a mission to either buy a second new front loader and dryer, or, if I find the right deal, a used set. These would be my second machines in the house. I work 6 days a week, and primarily do laundry on Sundays. I have owned front loaders for about 12 years. My first set was a Maytag Neptune with the rear control panel. I LOVED that washer! Yes, I ended up with mold issues, I suspect a portion of those issue were caused by me. I replaced the boot and sold the set. I then went to LG Tromm. I had quite a few problems with the washer. My Husband got to be very good at repairing it himself. I sold that set to my Daughter a year and a half ago, and they are still going strong for her. I purchased a Samsung washer and dryer(model numbers WF350ANG and DV350AEG) so far, so good, they have never let me down*knock wood*.

I went to Saskatoon today, and had a fabulous time checking out the Sears store. So many different machines!! It was like the angels were singing ;) I also stopped by Coast Appliances specifically to see the Miele washers and dryers in person. I was disappointed to learn that they did not have the model I was interested in, in stock(3033) the sales person there told me that I would not even be able to open the dryer or the other washer that they had on the floor as there was no power going to them. He said that is there was a power outage, whatever clothes were in the units would be stuck in there until the power came back on. Is that true???

I have also gone to my local appliance repair place and found a set of Bosch washers and dryers-model number WFMC3200UC. The ironic thing is, before I ordered my LG's, Sears had this exact set on the floor, blowout pricing. I bought them, took them home, and had them sitting downstairs. The more I looked at them, the more I decided I wanted the LG's. The Bosch's went back, and the LG's were ordered. Imagine the irony I felt when I ran across this set..I wondered if it was the set that I bought, and returned un-used... This set is very dirty, it will need a really good cleaning. I asked the gentleman that does the repairs what he did to repair it. He told me that a little old lady owned it, that it was only about a year old * cough cough bull$h!t* She told him that the washer quit, the dryer quit..he suspected she wanted a new set. He said he ran it for 3 days and it ran like a top.90 day warranty on used. They are asking 900.00 for the set. I wouldn't pay that!

My dilemma is: do I buy a used set with 90 day warranty, or a new set with one year warranty..for about 1000.00 difference? Thanks to all in advance.

The only thing that irks me about Sears products is that they tend to rebrand absolutely everything as "Kenmore". So, you could be buying LG, Samsung, GE or Whirlpool machines all rebranded as Kenmore machines. This may or may not be a bad thing if you know what you are getting.

For Miele, the two competitors in this area are Trail Appliances and Coast Appliances. I usually find the selection to be somewhat limited because they are niche machines and you nearly have to order "blind". Also check out Castle Appliances the next time you are in Calgary, they're the Huebsch dealer here.

>I was disappointed to learn that they did not have the model I was interested in,

Miele appliances, especially the washers and dryers, are a niche market so they don't get a lot of them in. I find they're a bit overpriced for what you get. For the same price, I'd rather buy a soft mounted commercial machine instead.

> I would not even be able to open the dryer or the other washer that they had on the floor as there was no power going to them.

I'm not sure why Miele's are like this, where the door won't release until you press a door release switch. I admit that's a bit of a turnoff as well. There is a solenoid which pulls back the latch so you can open the door. Without power, it does make it a little bit more difficult to open the door. I wouldn't use this as criteria for not buying a Miele. I'm sure there is a manual door release override somewhere, it would be in the instruction manual.

I wish I could give you an opinion of these machines. Read the reviews online, that's all I can really say.

> Sears had this exact set on the floor, blowout pricing.

I'm leery about this because there's always a reason why. Maybe they are discontinuing that model line or they've had issues with that line and have decided to stop selling it? Hard to say.

Well IMHO, this seems like a no brainer. Personally, I wouldn't buy any machine on the market with a 1 year warranty. It seems stupid to spend that much on any machine and not have a warranty which they will stand behind.

There is something the tech is not telling you, don't buy used. It's not worth it to have to deal with someone elses problems.

Door Override:

On the back of the detergent dispenser is a little orange "lever" object that you use to pry open the pump-acess door, revealing the little pump trap that you can un-screw and clean. Adjacent in this area is a little orange pull cord (plastic) you can use to release the door in *emergency* situations... Although one should avoid doing so with a high water level (*snickers*).

Kenmore/Samsung

Thank you both for your responses!

qualin, I was looking at a Kenmore elite washing machine(2 year warranty as compared to one year for Kenmore)the label said: manufactured in Plant 2 China. I then walked over to the Samsung display, opened the door and saw that it was also made at Plant 2 China!

The gentleman that I was speaking to at Sears informed me that GE moved its manufacturing to Mexico about 8 years ago.

I am looking forward to my next trip to Calgary to actually get to see a Huebsch machine. Call me crazy, but I still miss my old Neptune. Am I the only one who misses my old appliances?

On a side note, when we were driving over to Coast Appliances, I asked my gf how old her set was(I have known her for 10 years, so I knew they were at least that old) she said they were going on 15 years!!! They have done not a lick of maintenance to these machines. Isn't that fricken awesome??
