I am having a problem with my softener dispenser. It is stuck in the agitator and will not budge. Before I call the repairman, I was wondering if any of you might have some suggestions as to how I can safely un-stick it. The washer was originally installed on January 30, 2003. It's pictured below for anyone who is familiar with this type. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Fabric Softener Dispenser:

Hi! Jason, I'm sure that you have already tried this, but as far as I know, the Fabric Softener Dispenser should be able to be pulled off the top of the Agtiator, by pulling from one side in an upward direction, to release it from the Molded Clip-Like Locking part of the Agitator and Dispenser.

I hope that this helps you, if not I'm not sure otherwise of how to get the Dispenser off. "BTW" did you purchase the Washer new, or was it 2nd Hand, when you had it Installed? I'm just thinking if it was 2nd Hand, someone might have possibly Glued the Dispenser to the Agitator. If not, have you taken the Dispenser off before?

Good Luck with getting the Dispenser off, keep us informed as to your progress.

Peace and Happy WP Laundrying, Steve

It was brand new Steve. I tore it out of the box and installed it myself 3 years ago.

This might be worth a try. Pour very cold water in the dispenser and then let the washer spin to force the cold water to the outside wall of the dispenser. After the spin, use a hose to direct a stream of very hot water on the agitator, just below the dispenser. Use one or two of those white waffle-like grip pads and both hands to twist/pull the dispenser out. If you twist in the direction where the auger locks, you won't have to worry about holding it still while twisting the dispenser out.

Re: Dispenser Removal Suggestions:

Hi! Jason, any luck with our suggestions yet, to get your Washers Dispenser out of the middle of the Agitator?

I hope that something finally works for you, to get it out in 1-piece and saving the Auger of the Agitator as well. Keep us Posted as to what works and happens.

I "BTW" in my Top-Load Washers will only use the Downey Fabric Softener Ball, mainly so the Dispensers that come with the Washer don't get all messed up from Softener and some of my Clothing Loads, I actually a lot of times start the Washer on a complete Cycle, giving basically 3 to 4 Rinses and before the Drain/Spin of the Final Rinse, I place the Downey Ball filled with the Softener into the Washer, during the Agitation or Drain.

Good Luck with the Stuck Dispenser problem, Steve

I've tried these remedies and nothing works. Any other suggestions? If nothing else, I do know a good repairman.

Try pouring some hot water on the dispenser and DA auger column, then get a rag or dishtowel, grab, TWIST, and pull until it comes off. If nothing else worked, brute force certainly will!
