About 23 years ago I moved into a rental house, replacing a nice Japanese couple. They had purchased the Whirlpool belt drive TL that I in turn bought from them for about $150. The husband had tightly wrapped the connection between the drain hose and the standpipe with duct tape - he said that's how they did it in Japan. The wrapping was tight enough to form a seal. Needless to say, on occasion the washer wouldn't fill, or would fill and then siphon out during the cycle. I removed the tape and wired the hose into place, and problem resolved. I figure they might have done this in part because there was a clog in the main sewer line for the property... perhaps gunk was backing up the standpipe or something. I got the landlady to fix the clogged main, although I heard she complained to Allah about it. |
