Hi all, this is not an a actual need even though I think soon will become so, I could see the upper shaft seal in my servis being too dry and starting showing first signs of external cracking, while this would probably not be a problem with regular washings my fear is that it will become so during boiling procedure, I do not usually boil laundry but when I decide to use it to wash more loads of heavily soiled whites consequently sometimes I use to leave the heater on tilll the last of more soileds loads in order fo shorten wash time and finish more quickly....
During boiling procedure as who own a servis knows the water goes up through the agitator to come out from the holes vents on top of it right before the shaft seal and spline, my fear is that with a faulty seal water would find it's way up to the agitator and with the shaft not being sealed as it should be would let raising hot boiling water to enter into the shaft and transmission, that of course would never happen under normal conditions as the shaft is placed upper to the holes and even in case of an incidental overfill ( alrready happened to this silly guy to forget to move hose to the sink during spin rinse) would anyway never go up there as agitator cap is sealed with a rubber washer... but if shaft loose it's seal water would siphon into it.?
Maybe this is a silly concern, but I think it is better to have more concerns than having too less, and when it comes to a special machine as a Servis well...you're much careful too keep it in working order as much as you can and perhaps being over-worryed of many things.
So here is the thing, I could see you can unscrew the bolts from the tub to remove the shaft inside the tub, but it would not come out until you remove the spline, how can you remove the spline? , it look like it is assembled to the shaft drive.... What is the correct procedure to do this? Are serviz shaft seals available to get?
Thanks in advance to everyone who can give suggestions....

and never had cause to, I understand what you are concerned about however if the rubber seal inside the cap is ok and preventing air coming out the top of the agitator it should be ok I have MK2 that has a loose seal on the top of the shaft and its perfectly fine as long as the caps screwed on tight.

Hope this helps?

Austin

Yes Austin, thank you... You know, i was just unsure about the tranny, if the tranny is not perfectly sealed perhaps during boiling washing water could push up and reach the inside kinda siphon into, same way could happen during an incidental overfill? , I am unsure about servis trannies having a gearbox vent...if so maybe water would siphon into it as air would come out leaving space for water to siphon and enter, but the fact you have yours running even with the shaft seal very loose calms my concerns about, please if anyone have advices of any kind they of course are welcome....
Thank you again....

Hi Freddie, unless its an issue, leave well alone, I have never known this to be a problem in any Servis twinny, like Austin says keep the agi screwed and youre fine.

Most "Boil" loads can be done in a small amount of water without agitation, then once a roiling boil is completed fill to the water line and wash accordingly.
