Now I’m on the beg!

Would anyone have a copy of the service information for this model, I have had a preliminary look around and removed a few screws and every thing started going south, literally, the drum started dropping and I couldn’t see what was holding what together.

The cabinet diagrams would be a great help in restoring this machine.

As you can see it will have to be re-powder coated and the switches need to be replaced as the heat and sun light have degraded then and are crumbling.

Any help much appreciated

Lee

Hi Lee.

If that is the machine I think it is, then Mathew showed me a photograph of it a fair few years ago. Good on him for saving it and glad that it has found a home with you.

When I saw the teaser pictures, I started wracking my brain trying to thing if I had any suitable replacement panels up here. Then I remembered your penchant for heavy duty restorations, involving getting panels resprayed and instantly stopped worrying.

I cant get to them right now, but I should be able to provide a couple of replacement buttons, though they will require respraying in suitable shades as, unless you are very lucky, liberator buttons first fade and then crumble.

Am fairly sure that I have the servicing bumpfff upstairs - will try get some photographs of it tomorrow, for posting soon after.
Paul.
p.s to stop the dryer collapsing, you should disassemble it laid on its back. I parted one of these machines out for spares a year or two ago and took photographs of all the stages. I did think that I had posted this photo guide on a thread, but I can't find it, so maybe I didn't.

Thanks Paul
The photo you posted has already solved some of the problems I was having, more screws in the front panel!!!! Dooo I missed one at the bottom of the door recess holding the heater assembly.

The service information will be greatly received, thanks once again.

Gary
Yes it was great in Cardiff, I’m still waiting for the photos, and then I think it’s time to post some more Hoover news as I have been the owner for almost twelve months now and that too will be restored this spring/summer…..

Lee

Removed the control panel overlay, this is the most nerve wracking part for me, I slipped a flat flexible piece of soft plastic under one corner and slowly eased the overlay off, the glue was still very tacky and held on very tight but steady movements and lots of luck and it came off.

The silvering on the back stayed in tacked, the patched missing where already there.

Cleaned the timer dial, as usual someone has been at the centre screw trying to remove the dial, it’s only a dummy the unit just pulls off.

Sorry Lee, but I have buried your recent posts amongst the servicing bumpff. The manual is for the original 1701 and will most definitely cover your machine.

I am impressed that you are able to remove the fascia stickers! I have one that such treatment requires meeting out on to, but am just not brave enough and as the fascia is so rare I daren't risk an attempt.

I definitely have replacement buttons for you and I might have a chrome door that is less pitted - problem is that they are deep in storage and I cant get to them for a while:-(
But they are features that can be easily retrofitted after the bodyshell has been restored.

Will post some of the part out photos soon.
Paul
p.s if you decide to touch up the silver covering on the back of the fascia, to try and fill in the blemishes, let me know what shade you find is best match.

Ere maybe Hotpoint were ahead of there time and developed special plastics that would naturally decompose, that way not polluting mother earth :-)

And Hoover with there Green half load "save the planet" buttons on there early machines..............

:-)
