Christine-

This machine is not a "full size" automatic. You may have your terminology mixed up. By saying "full size" you are relating to it's capacity which actually isn't anywhere near a full size machine. This machine doesn't stand as tall as a regular sized washer. And since it's as portable it's also on wheels to move it to the sink to connect it to a water supply with a quick connect hose kit. The machine is "fully functional" though like a regular sized machine.
3 water levels
5 temp. options- provided you connect to separate water lines for hot and cold
multiple cycles- can't see control knob for how many...maybe three, regular, gentle, and perm. press.

Not sure if it's BD or DD. You can tell by what agitator is in the machine.
Unfortunately, they didn't give us a shot of it.

Rick

Don't they have the high speed spin cycle?

Compact 24" KM DD Washer

Good little washer, but it is only 1/2 the size at best compared to a full sized 27" wide DD wp built washer. These compacts were very rugged as all the major mechanical components were the same as the largest DD washer, however it is interesting to note that these compacts do not last as long if the washer is washing for the same number of people as a full sized machine, because it has to do nearly twice as many loads per week.

washdaddy/rick:

thanks for the correction. (sowwy. i'm still learning) LOL....

i have never seen one of these "portable" washers in person, so, i was thinking that since it was an automatic, it has to be a full sized wash tub just in a smaller cabinet. i kinda remember reading something like that in this group, in one of the threads. maybe it was a different brand of portable washer? whirlpool maybe??
and also, when i seen portable, i automatically thought about the hoover twin tub "portable" washer that i had. and so, i figured this kenmore had a bigger washtub compared to the hoover twin tubs washtub.

so, i wonder if this would be like having the speed queen twin tub, just that instead of having to be so "hands-on" with the washing, like with a twin tub, it is fully "automatic"??

is that a safer comparison to make?

The difference between the twin tub and this machine is that this only has a single tub with an agitator like a regular machine. It's just a lot smaller. As John mentioned it's about half the size of a regular washer capacity wise. With this machine once you start it, you don't have to come back to it till it has completed the cycle like a regular sized machine. With the twin tubs you have to change the clothes from one tub to the other for extracting the water and with rinsing. The twin tub is more of a hands on washing machine.

My first washer was one of these,

But mine was a Whirlpool. It was a GREAT little washer. They were portable and mine rolled over to and hooked up to the kitchen sink in my apartment. They didn't hold as much but you could still wash a load of double bed sized sheets. Usually these were just used by single folks or small families that lived in apartments or condos. If you had a family of 8 or something you'd spend every day washing several loads but that was not their intent. It SURE beat going to the Laundromat. I had the matching 110 electric dryer too. It took about an hour to dry a load but still beat going out to do your laundry. Once you hooked up the water and the drain, they were totally automatic.

WP dryer.

Sold the washer off to a fellow member but kept the dryer! *LOL*

These little WP/KM units just keep going and going with proper care and use. Mine only needed the tub seal replaced which one supposes is normal after fifteen or so years.

Found the machine great for family laundry and such, but our bed linen posed problems. It depended upon what one was washing. Percale queen sheets? Not so good IMHO. Satin or other sheets of man made fibers? Great. Ditto for flannel or any other weave that absorbs water thus can be pulled down.

What one loved where the three spray rinses in "Normal" that followed the wash and rinse cycles. Things came out quite well after all that, and since one doesn't normally bother with fabric softener that was me for you.
