Frostproof and expensive, let me know if this one has "adorned" the pages of aw.org before. Thanks.

ad: " Beautiful restored vintage 1964 Frigidaire Imperial Frostproof 19 refrigerator. Amazingly the original turquoise finish is still looking great with no scratches. Shines up very nice with wax. This has a brand new compressor installed, new defrost timer, new door gaskets, new defrost heater, two new cold controls were also installed. This works by adjusting the cold control that controls the freezer section. The other cold control controls a fan in the fresh food section that blows cold air from the freezer into the fresh food section.
All original inside with pull out shelves and a pull out basket in the freezer section. New freezer fan installed along with new wiring. Works perfectly and looks great. Restored by Antique Vintage Appliances in Tucson, AZ at a cost of $4,500. The restoration prices have gone even higher then that now. Size is 67-1/2 in high x 35 in wide x 24-1/2 in deep.

It's been on eBay for a while. It's a 1965 model.

There's no reason to delete it! It's a really nice fridge and the pictures will stay for future reference! I wish I had the money to buy it, space to store it and a use for it as I really like this model... Can't pick them all!

Frigidaire Imperial 1964 FP1-19B-64

Hi Ovrphil, I have almost the same model Frigidaire as yours. It came with this house I bought early 90's. I have change all three fans over the years; back unit fin fan, freezer evaporator fan, and upper refrigerator non-freezer food storage compartment fan. The compressor still works like a charm. I am having a problem with the freezer icing over and not defrosting. The defrost thermostat is ok, but not sure about the heater coil and possibly the timer, which seems to cycle once an hour instead of the normal seven or eight hours - at least the compressor shuts off for a period at this pace. These awesome units don't make it easy to access the starting points for the defrost thermostat or heater coil forcing you to remove the whole compartment housing, which I haven't attempted to do yet for fear of the unknown - had to cut the wired to the thermostat to check it. Appears there's a heater in the front floor of the upper frig or if you prefer the ceiling of the freezer near the door - maybe to prevent condensation, but don't really know - it gets hot at that spot, however. Anyway was wondering if you could shed any light on my problem. I've fixed newer model refrig's but this unit is quite a horse. Thanks Bill

Hi,

Somehow, you mistook me as the owner of one of these - I post ads from Craigslist or occasionally, eBay. I don't own one of these or any model like that, but I'm a fan of these.

In fact, today PhilR and I were checking out one of these (belongs to Carmine) and his 64 like yours is leaking water, related to the defrost heater/tubing...anyways..maybe PhilR or Carmine can comment on your problem

Hope you can get the problem solved - love your fridge.

Phil (ovrphil)

Here are pictures Phil took of me this afternoon. Too bad I'm about as large as that fridge (at high school, "Fridge" was my nickname!) because I'm almost totally hiding interesting stuff behind me!

The second picture shows a bit of one of the things!

That sure is a gorgeous turquoise fridge - I wish more color would return to modern appliances - all stainless all the time is a bit dull.
I also like the glossy glass-like surface...is it glass?

Post# 1187548 , Reply# 9 - Painted or Porcelain?

ovrphil's profile picture
I have two identical Frigidaires like this(only one works)and both are white. However one is Porcelain and thank you Phil Racicot for pointing that out when I first hauled it home...and the other is painted(both 1964 identical to the one for sale). I wonder if anyone here in this corner of automaticwasher.org who may have saw this Imperial ad for sale in N.Jersey, purchased it? Was this a porcelain finish?
