Dishwasher
having not seen that dishwasher before it looks very similar to a machine marketed under both the Bendix and Electrolux brand names.
The brochure number implies that it is from October 1976 but I thought that they were up to the Supertwin 100 (with stainless steel wash deck and lids) where that looks to be the Supertwin 70 to me. Made in Spain certainly indicates that the Continental was fagor manufactured, although one would have to wonder why they produced this one in apparent competition to the Compact (which went on for many more years) unless their market research indicated a demand for a more conventionally sized machine. Buttons
I've been trying to work out what the ABCD buttons equate to as they dont seem to be obvious. I wonder if the programming was done by a configuration of buttons and the dial was simply set to one starting point. However this means 4 and 6 are the same temp - feasible? Even if there was multiple programmes on the dial I have no idea what the buttons could be given the possible options in suggestion. A - only relates to 60'c programmes cottons AND synthetics B - is only relative to 95, 60 cottons and 60 synthetics C - al synthetic washes. D - on off. Obviously C has to relate to Rinse hold thats easy. But the rest? At a guess, A, Prewash for 60'c cycles (Think Zanussi washcraft style programming with thermo actioned prewash on timer between 95 and 60) B Half load- quite why it dosnt apply to 40'c cotton is a guess unless it was deemed they still needed plenty of water too. My other guess is its a Bio phase and restricts hot fill to cold fill on these hotter washes. C Rinse hold D on/off | ||

Hi Alan, many thanks for the scans, great to finally see a brochure for the elusive 302 - it wasnt so elusive to me I remember seeing it for the first time at the age of 15 in very subdued circumstances, My parents best friends Margaret and Eddie had just bought this machine and Eddie (48) plumbed it in and was moving the trusty Hoover 3334 twintub into the back of his estate car to take to his newly married daughters house, he had a massive heart attack and died, so I first saw it after the funeral and I remember thinking I could never understand them keeping it - given the circumstances I think I would have wanted it gone and never having to look at it and be reminded!!
It did go on to give many years washing, about 15 - but I do remember them all complaining about the door lock delay.... | ||

Paul, glad you mind s finally at ease and the spreadsheet ticked, see what I mean about the larger dispenser door, like the selectronic...
Al, The twinny is the MK80, white lids with interlock and the first with the long "Servis Supertwin" name of the front, the 70 had the black "S" in perspex. Yes the dishwasher is from the Thorn Tricity Bendix camp like rickies.. This model was introduced to fill a number of gaps, ie a cheaper model to compete with the Indesit`s and such of the time, also the shortage of steel due to the steel strikes and inherent industrial relations strikes that where rife throughout the UK meant they could still supply and sell if on strike - then there was the change of ownership with a management buyout co-inciding with factory number 3 of 4 opening at the new Kings Hill industrial estate (ready for computer control Selectronics ) further down the road from the Darlaston factory. Big times indeed for Servis. Rob, interesting programme selections, I see on the fascia the 6 HLCC wash programmes 1,2,3,4,5,6 no woollens..., I dont see or read of a half load button I would go with A = Auto Pre-Wash, B = Bio Button and C = delicate action spin delay / slow spin / drip dry Am I thinking this is a 500 spin machine and for some reason I always thought it was Balay who made it.... | ||

The van looks earlier than 1976 but I remember the Viva HA vans did look quite old fashioned by the time they were discontinued. | ||

Domar/New Pol
Hi all,i believe the servis continental was sourced from Domar of spain, and a very similar model was sold by Comet badged as New Pol.Domar machines always looked better than they realy were.The saying all fur coat and no knickers springs to mind.One of the option buttons was for selecting hot fill,if selected the machine would fill 1/3rd cold water and then 2/3rds hot as i guess these machines were originaly designed to be cold fill and only and adapted to hot fill for the U.k.I did have to repair one many years ago ,i had to replace the drum bearings on it ,not a nice job.Hi Fido,yes the Bedford H A van was a dinosaur and yes they still sold them well into the late seventys.The repair company i worked for got a brand new Bedford H A 130 van in 1977 R reg and i had the misfortune of driving it.Hope this clears up the mistry,Regards Nigel.

Hi Nigel and more information for the pot, was Domar the holding company for the like of NewPol and possibly Balay? like GDA was for Hotpoint Schreiber..,
Can you tell us how the programmer control knob worked and was it a Newpol or continental you worked on? Interesting how both manufacturers have similar charictaristics particularly the control knob which is most unusual....though I did think it has a touch of Beekay Bauknecht about it!! | ||

Oh another great brochure Alan, many thanks, interesting the dryer is up to 120 mins that must have been a hot dryer as the models produced only had spin speeds between 380 and 475 If i remember correctly - wonder what this one was?
I always remember seeing these in the local Comet shop which was in the "Kwik Save" shopping hall!! The school uniform shop was next door, ironic how I would end up working there a few years later in what was Status kitchen & bedrooms which was again taken over by MFI...I spent all my spare time in Comet and the staff never batted an eyelid when I advised and sold a customer something - got me more discount lol This post was last edited 03/18/2014 at 13:39 | ||
