I picked up my Smeg dishwasher yesterday and it kicks ass at washing. The build quality of that machine is unreal. There is nothing exposed you can't see the motor or anything it is a steel box with insulation all around it and it has a 120V Power-cord with plug and a electrified cold water hookup and the drain tube.My Dad is buying one he loves the design and the attention to detail.I put it on my kitchen-table and hooked it up to the water hose outside and hung the drain hose out the window LOL. I could not wait.I took last nights dishes and packed the thing and did not rinse or scrape nothing and poured in a cup of hard cat food.I put in one packet of this new dishwasher detergent Grab-Green Tangerine and set it to Auto wash and sani rinse. This dishwasher is very powerful you can hear the water but the motor is silent. The wash action changes side to side. The racks have every type of adjustment you can think of and a half moon drip trap that falls down when you open the door.
It sounds different than a normal dishwasher I think because those orbital wash arms are always hitting some different place. It is quieter than my L.G. on the table now. When it is installed with the wood panels it will be silent almost.I am still trying to figure out how to set the cycles its kind of confusing I just hit Auto wash I wanted pot's and pans. Two and half hours later it was done and I opened the door and everything was spotless and there was no food anywhere near or in the filter. I was floored I was expecting food to be on the bottom but nothing at all anywhere. Tall glasses that never get clean where spotless and I covered all the spoons with peanut butter which never comes off it was all gone. This machine has 4 spray arms two on top and the two orbital ones on the bottom.I packed this thing to the ceiling with plates, pans, everything. It all came clean with a natural detergent and no TSP in it.I did fill the salt thing with a box of Miele dishwasher salt and poured a liter of water in there.I guess that water softener makes a huge difference in cleaning. There is a huge difference and this pains me to say this but the quality between this Smeg and any American made dishwasher. This Smeg looks like a portable dishwasher that is how well it is insulated it is. These new Kitchenaid dishwashers use these little 50 watt wash pumps on there 1800 dollar machines, which is the exact same as a 300 Kenmore or Whirlpool which is sad.Now that they have brought back there Iconic wash arm I do not see how that motor can move it the drain motor in most dishwasher are 40 watts. I still want my old dishwasher's but I am very very impressed with this Euro made one..I just can't get over there was nothing in the bottom of it..

How about some pictures, inside and out of this gem that you are raving about? Would also be good for the archives. Congratulations on your machine. Sounds like a definite keeper. Rick |

There was nothing left after what I have put this machine through when it comes to the filter or the dishes everything was spotless.I had a good friend of mine who sent me some Somat detergent with 30% phosphates in it that works great.I have been using that Grab-Green from Amazon which is all natural but works really well and smells great.I do also have a 30 pound bag of food grade Phosphate that works great for heavy loads. There are very few holes in the wash arms that are small to large and there are three under each side that spray down on the filter. During the last rinse it does this odd purge thing and speeds up the motor on it and drains as it fills and washes.I guess that cleans the filter part because the filter does not have big holes for large food. There is a speed cycle that is very strange its for really dirty dishes but the dishwasher is a lot louder during this cycle the motor is on high through the whole thing. It flips over glasses and anything that is light and does not switch side to side until the main wash and when it does it still keeps the motor on high and you can hear the dishes rattling around in there big time. I am really happy with it having that Orbital wash arms two side by side and the top you can put things anywhere and they come clean. |
