This is my latest find. I go to pick it up in a week from today. It is not in the box but has never been used. Should I remove the paper from the rolls and use her or just sit and look at her? I am pretty sure I am going to use her but save the papers. Where will I put her you ask? I have no clue !!!!!! But, will find a spot to squeeze to make a bit bigger. Looking forward to next Monday and bringing her home. Wish I could have been to Marty's wash-in with all of you guys but OH is a bit far. I would have just gotten in trouble tho trying to bring that beautiful four legged friend home with me LOL. Glad you all had such a great time and thanks for all of the pics !!! More maybe?????????

Jim

New, never used!  That is so fun, you'd better just stare at it a while before using it for the first time.  I'd last about a day...Tongue out

A car related analogy.....

It would be like buying your favorite classic car you have always wanted, putting it in the garage but never driving it.

What is the fun in that?!?

Admire it for a few days, take some photos and start using it!

Kevin

@RevvinKevin

Same here. I agree.

I'd use it!

Even if I said I wouldn't, sooner or later the temptation would be too great and I'd cave. So better sooner than later.

That says AMANA but looks a lot like a Speed Queen to me????

It's like keeping the plastic slipcovers on the good furniture
to save the upholstery for the next guy.

Jim, you're the next guy!!

Go put that smile on your face that can't be erased!

Yes,

It is a Speed Queen badged Amana. It was born in August of 1988. I know I will use it LOL.

Oh, you must use it!! It's too nice to not to! Just think; you'll be the first to put water and your clothes and detergent in it.

And ... it has a pump, no less. :-)

Enjoy!

A pump!?

Is that the pump know/switch on the front? Grandma's Speed Queen didn't have a pump. There was a knob on the side you pulled out to let the water out and pushed in to make the water stop. Her's didn't even have a hose on it. Dumped right into a bucket. Probably because it was used in the kitchen without a floor drain.I remember Grandma lifting those heavy buckets of water and dumping them out the window! It was a farm house. A pump would have saved a lot of work.

I'll tell you this. The Speed Queen basic design didn't change all that much between 1948 and 1988. Maytag stopped wringer production in 1983. Does anyone know who was the last and what year they stopped?

USE IT!!!!

I have been told

that SQ stopped making wringers in 1991, including all of the badged ones. My Mom and Gramma both had speed queens with the red/blue knobs to empty the tub with. The drain spout had hose threads and so Mom put a short hose on hers to run it over to the floor drain. Gramma didn't have a drain so she had to empty with buckets. Lots of work both filling and draining the old ones. Thanks for all of the comments !! I am anxious to get it home and fill it for the first time and use it. Best to all !

Save the paper, but take it off!

atomict's profile picture

Is it possible to take the paper off, laminate it or something like that so you can cover the rollers up later on for display?

"You're the Next" guy, but in this
case you can be the Only Guy.

My friends and I have just talked
about "why are we saving" some of
the NOS stuff we have.

Life's too short. Enjoy it.

I'm curious to hear the story on how it is that this machine has never seen water.

Well,

what a mess this auction was. I drove over 4 hours to pick up this washer only to find out that in deed it was new but did not work. The wringer did not run in reverse and the agitator did not work. I have no idea why they didn't work but I was sick. It was spotless. The electric cord was still coiled up under the washer and the drain hose was still attached to the inside of the skirt. The place was a total junk pit. I could not believe all of the crap they had piled around trying to sell. I told the seller I did not want the washer because it did not work as was stated in the auction. She went ballistic immediately. Called me everything but a human. I did not exchange words with her but just walked out of the junk shop. She was right behind me cussing me out all the way. It was all unbelievable. My Sis and her husband were with me and were amazed at her reaction. I came home and filed a case with PayPal immediately over the phone and was given my money back right away. I now have written proof of my refund. Never again will I be so stupid as to buy anything on ebay without looking at it first. The sellers husband even admitted that it did not work and thought maybe since it had sat unused since 1988 the lubrication had dried up. I don't think that was it but have no idea why it would not work right. I was just happy to get out of the junk store with my life and that of my family. So, there is no NOS Amana wringer in my collection. This is all bizarre to me. I do have my NIB speed queen made in 1990 that works fine. Oh well LOL. I didn't want to write anything about this until I had written proof of my refund. PayPal was awesome and fast in their actions.

Wow Jim,
Sorry to hear of your ordeal. One would think the Speed Queen product would work. It looked so cool.
I'm glad PayPal came to your rescue. Glad you had someone there with you.
What you described is everyone's nightmare.

Mike

but thankfully, PayPal resolved it quickly! Sorry to hear about this, Jim. But at least, you already have a SQ.

This machine had to have been previously used!

Otherwise it would not have all the pitting that you see in the bottom of the washtub that is obvious in the picture. I bet that the rollers were replacements, but the paper was never removed. I have a well used twin of this machine and it is pitted in the washtub in exactly the same way.

Sorry to hear this. What a disappointment!

Not just that the machine wasn't in the condition you were led to believe it was in, but, how badly you were treated!

Well Friends,

it is all over now and I have my money back. I have no idea to this day why neither the wringer or agitator worked right. I have my SQ that I got NIB that is 2 years older and had never been used. It works great in all respects. I did have to put a new belt on her tho. The belt had been on the pulleys so long without being turned that it was not the proper shape any longer and made a noise. Got a new one at Lehman's and all is quiet as can be now. This has all been a lesson learned for me. Oh yes, the spots in that Amana tub were speckled porcelain not pits. It really looked dirty or pitted but was made that way. My SQ has a pure white tub. Thanks for all of the condolences !!!!

Jim

PS: My and my Sisters ears are still burning and ringing from all of the sellers cussing. What a pair they were. All in the past now thank God !!
