I have a Whirlpool dryer that is just a little over a year old. It's just a standard 7 cu.ft with a top mounted filter. WP hasn't changed a thing about these since they've been making them for 20+ years, and I know that with this being BOL they're not the quietest things, but this one has an incessant rattle that sounds like something vibrating against the metal panel or something on the bottom. It's very loud and obnoxious, and only subsides once the machine has been running for 20 minutes or so. I've taken it apart literally down to the motor, and tested it by plugging it in (and yes, the element was disconnected) with only the motor spinning, and the sound is still there, which rules out the possibility of the fan or duct causing it. From what I can tell, it sounds like it's under the motor, or possibly inside? It doesn't cause any problems with performance, and it's a phenomenal dryer when it comes to drying large loads the first time around, but that rattle drowns out the nice hum of the motor and the clothes tumbling inside. Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing it?

I wonder if they forgot to lubricate the rear drum bearing? This uses a high temp grease. Maybe the drum guides aren't tightened down well.

Whirlcool, there is no rear bearing on this model. It uses felt on the rear of the tub for a bearing-type application. Also, there are no drum glides. I think you have this confused with a Frigidaire-type dryer.

I've heard plenty of these make a sound like what is being mentioned. I don't think that there is really anything you can do to make it quieter.

Sounds like you do have it narrowed down to the motor.  Motors for these dryers aren't that expensive and you may have just had a lemon from the outset.  A call to Whirlpool might even get you a new motor since it's still so close to the warranty expiration date.   They'll try to get you to schedule a service call but a little fussing with them usually will get the part mailed to you.

You also may have something caught in the blower wheel.
