The washer is 3 and a half years old. AWN series... When the machine starts to spin it almost immediately goes out of balance violently. I removed the tub balance ring and ran it empty, and it does the same thing. Thinking it had to be the springs, I replaced them all. Same problem. No gaps or breaks in the belt and the pulleys seem to be fine. The tub is tight and secure. Could there be something in the transmission that is causing this? Mark

Try this?

You already did the springs but there is a snubber / friction ring that may be getting oil on it (so the article says) perhaps from the tranny? Read the post and good luck.

Mark,
You might want to try contacting "Washman" on this site. He is an avid Speed Queen man and might be able to give you some guidance and assistance on what to do.

Good luck with your machine,
Rick

Out Of Balance SQ TL Washer

I too would check out the snubber ring carefully and its mating surfaces for wear, oil etc.

Hi Rick, an avid fan does not necessarily make someone a good source of repair advice.

Repair advice

Agree with what John says Rick: I would trust the advice of a repairman who works on these machines daily over an avid fan on the majority of occasions.

If an avid fan has worked on these machines themselves, then I'd certainly consider their opinion.

And I agree with combo52 believe it or not

Fan yes, expert in repairing a SQ? Far from it! I know how they work, sort of, but having not taken one apart, I am the last person to seek for advice when it comes to repair. Come to think of it, I doubt I will ever become an expert in repairing a Speed Queen because well..............you know the story!

The best way to see if the balance ring is...

defective, is to remove it and let it spin. That ring is only useful when there is a load of clothes in the tub. An empty tub with no ring should spin perfectly....we're not talking Whirlpool here..... jus sayin...

I realize this is an old thread but...I bought a new SQ AWN432 last August, its been doing the same thing the original poster spoke about, every load, when it goes into spin the tub starts banging around violently. .I had service come out and they took the front cover off and proclaimed all was well and I'd have to babysit each load. A week later I called them back, the clothes canot be redistributed, the banging continues. Service comes back removes front cover and watches it spin violently, tells me the friction ring is almost gone and under the machine is piles of what looks like cornstarch....they returned two days ago and replaced friction ring, base plate, and milk stool, ...I noticed the old friction ring was maybe 1/4 in thick if that and the new one was much thicker...as they placed the machine on top of the new baseplate and F ring...I noticed the F ring slid out of place but they said it was fine as it would slide back into place. What do I know lol...they did not stick around when they were done. It spins just fine now except there's a loud vibration sound during agitation and spin. I had no vibration when I bought this machine. Any ad ice or tip on how you think I should proceed here what could be causing this loud vibration? Thank you much...
