Would anybody be interested in a young’s town kitchen sink? I will put a pic up later today.

Would that be a large single basin with drain board?

I figured thats what it would be. Id like to find a drop in that uses a Hudee ring two basin cast enamel.

If I understand what you're looking for correctly, it's still made.

Kohler still makes the classic midcentury Delafield sink in cast iron, which can be installed as a tile-in sink, where tile comes up to the sink rim, or with an optional Hudee ring, which Kohler now refers to as a "metal frame." This is exactly the sink I grew up with, in our kitchen which was remodeled after a January, 1959 fire.

A link and pic are below; the sink is not cheap at $459.05 MSRP, plus an additional $78.50 for the Hudee ring. But it's a brand-new sink with installation instructions, a warranty, and porcelain enamel that no one has ever done anything stupid to. That last part ought to be worth something right there!

The Delafield is available in White, Biscuit, Almond and Black.

Hope this helps.

Thats the one. Thanks for the info. I was aware the sink was still available from Kohler. But in my pessimistic mind with all things being equal today I wonder if the enamel on these new ones is as good as it was "back in the day." And Id like to find yellow or turquoise.

I have both the first white one and second 70s gold one from my parents house. Both are chipped and would need to be reenameled. That would probably end up costing more than a new one. I picked up a really nice turquoise one (no chips) a few years ago but its a single basin.

If I'm not mistaken, Kohler has a custom-color program. I think if you're willing to pay for it, they're willing to crank it out for you. Worth an email.

Today's porcelain on cast iron is better than yesterday's. It's now a premium product, not a mass-market one produced to a price point. There are fewer impurities in the cast iron, fewer in the porcelain, and today's application methods put down the layer of glass frit more evenly than before.

My understanding is that the Delafield we had installed in '59 was a $59.95 sink.

P.S.: The "Turquoise" color you're looking for was Kohler's No. 08, Cerulean Blue. Their "Yellow" was No. 18, Sunrise.

Thanks. That I did not know. Too bad you couldnt still get it for $59.95. Allowing for infalation I wonder what $59.95 in 1959 dollars would equate to today? What color is your sink?

Okay just checked. $59.95 in 1959 would be $483.68 in 2014 dollars. 706.8% rate of inflation.

Since the sink is $459.05 today, its price is actually down slightly from what it was in '59.

Our Delafield was White, as were all the appliances. My mom didn't believe in fashion colors for appliances, saying, "they won't last."

It took me a long time and several problems matching obsolete colors on appliances to figure out that she knew what she was talking about.

I have not seen a new Delafield in person, so to speak, but I wonder if that little Kohler emblem might just be put on with adhesive, and therefore removable?

I looked on website and got a surprise. $137.00 higher if you want one of the other available colors other than white. I did a search concerning custom colors but didnt get any results. I didnt send an inquiry.

This sink is in a house I'm selling to a friend his wife "I think it's ugly" is what she told me so they are going to remold the kitchen. I figured I would try and sell it before they send it to China to be a Kia or two.

The Youngstown cabinet and sink pictured above is like the one in the house we lived in until I was 2. The faucet and hardware were of course different as these have been replaced on the one Mopar65 has.

When I worked at a plumbing supply co. that was an Eljer distributor, we would sometimes get requests for custom colors. It could be done as long as the color was in current production on some product line made in that facility, but at least 10 of the items had to be ordered. The Eljer rep said they could develop other colors, but the order had to be in the tens of thousands of dollars, and that was back in the late 80's, so it was rarely if ever done.

I really like that but unfortunately NY is a long way from MI. Could we get a look at the rest of the kitchen?
