Hi guys I am back after a few years away my partner terry is still with me although have had major health issues he is still with me, and battling back not bad for a man 75 years old. ok today he has had the engineer out to look at his Hotpoint front loader.Bearing in mind he has has this machine only 4 years, the machine has been going off into a wild noisy crazy spin. after resetting the machine to spin it was OK. the engineer has been today only to find to his horror, the concrete block to keep the machine stable while in action has crumbled and disintegrated to nothing why has this happened surly this kind of action is not meant to happen

hello hairy man.

basically hotpoint were taken over by indesit a few years back- and since then the machines have declined horribly in quality to the point they are probably the worst brand on the market taking everything into consideration.

im assuming his machine is an aqualtis? aqualtis machines have a major defect where the concrete block is not strong enough and breaks into pieces during the spin cycle and this along with other faults has not even been corrected, and probably never will.
other problems they have alot are the main boards going and the main drums failing within months, and in some cases even exploding.

i would advise you not to spend a penny on this machine for any reason because all it will do is break as replacement parts are no better than standard parts for these. i would advise your partner buy an LG machine, as they have proved to be very well built, good looking machines in a suitable bracket (some even cheaper than aqualtis)

George, don't talk nonsense. Indesit company (and therefore Hotpoint) would never be able to get away with specifying the concrete block to be so insubstantial that it would break up with the regularity that you seem to be insinuating.

While Hotpoint are not the most reliable brand on the market, they are also not the worst. Clearly you have an axe to grind with them for whatever reason. LG have had their own issues, and there are actually better machines than either Hotpoint or LG at similar prices.

As to the OP - you need to report this to the place where you bought the machine from 4 years ago, and to Hotpoint customer services. If they are no help, go to trading standards. Under the Sales of Goods Act 1979, something has to be fit for purpose for which it has been sold, so as long as you have not been using the machine for commercial use then you could argue that 4 years is not an expected lifespan for a machine and as such the components should be expected to last.

Check out the trading standards for your local area, and the citizens advice pages, there will be letters there that you can download and use the template of.
