What's everyone in washer land i just got a brand new Maytag Centennial top load belt drive washer.
A little story as to why I purchased a new machine, in the past 4 months I have gone through 5 used washers, and this last straw was IT for me, so after the whirlpool portable died Monday I went out and naught a new one, I'm doing my first load in it as I'm typing this out, and boy is she quiet, video soon to come, I like how I control the water level and water temp and not the machine, I don't need electronics telling me how to do laundry. Has anybody had one of these machines or currently own one I'd love to hear comments on yours, and maybe a video or two, I'll update once the washer is done.

Looks like old Whirlpool is starting to see the light and giving some control back to the user.

Hope it runs for many years.

Update

Ok so I'm liking this washer a lot, it seems to clean very well and roll the load over effortlessly, the only thing I will have to get used to is when set on the power wash cycle and extra rinse, it take just over an hour to complete the cycle. Other than that I am impressed, and I'm a hard one to impress when it come to washers.

Did the washer fill to the top of the tub on its own, or did you add water? I haven't seen a machine fill that full on its own in ages. Well, my Speed Queen does, but that's only because the dealer raised the water level for me. That's a handsome-looking console; a nice change from all-white plastic.

Speaking of SQ....your screen name has Speed Queen in it. Is there a reason you decided to choose Maytag over SQ? Just curious.

Congratulations on your new purchase, and may you get many trouble-free loads from your Maytag!

Frigilux

The machine filled to the top of the tub on it's own on the super setting, and I did not add a drop of water. And I love speed queen washers, unfortunately the closest dealer is 190 miles away, as this is a maytag whirlpool town, we have a manufacturing plant here as well, that's the only reason why choose a whirltag. :)

I hope I get years of use out of her.

Your New Maytag is classy!

Speed_Queen 75,  questions please.  I see  you had selected "Power wash".  If  "normal" was selected does it do the low water level routine?  Do you get full tubs of rinse water?  Is the hot water controlled, or water heater Hot?  After reading the "detergent pod" thread, I wondered if the instructions address the need more for more detergent with more water?  I am happy to see Water again.  I have my old Maytag,  Also a newer Admiral ( last of the coupler drives).  The  Admiral is stingy with rinse water.  Thank You and I wish you the best of luck with your new Maytag.

Arthur

One more question

actually two....is it a porcelain top and lid, and when you select 2 rinses with fabric softener, are they both deep fill rinses?
Mike

Hey Arthur

The wash tub is porcelain indeed, and on the power wash Norman and regular cycles you do get water for the selected leave setting, so if you set wash to super you get a full tub of water for rinse, I haven't used the other settings yet so I can't really say for certain about those. Now when it comes to water temp hot is water heater hot from what I can tell. But I do enjoy this washer my clothes have been very clean so far I am impressed.

Love this washer!

I have the Whirlpool equivalent. It also fills to the top on the Super level, and the wash action is great with rollover and is very gentle in my opinion with the wide slow arc. I will say that if you want a full deep rinse, ALWAYS select the fabric softener option. Without, it will just do a short spray rinse, and trust me, that does nothing. If I ever need a second rinse, which is rarely considering how well it does with just one deep rinse, I just set it to Rinse & Spin and let it go. Here's the link to the thread about mine:

Thanks for the additional info.  I am glad to hear about the abundant rinse water.  Most any adult that pays water and utility bills can figure out  what machine is best for them at their current address.  Thanks again.

You are quite welcome my friend, I have convinced my boyfriend to buy a top loader after the nightmere he had with a front load, so off to sears we went today and he purchased a Kenmore top load with the triple flex agitator. I can't wait to see it in action, I'll post pics as so as he gets it delivered.

The Kenmore vs. Maytag

It is essentially the same washer except for the triple action agitator which moves up and down as the auger twists the load down to the bottom of the tub and the fact that you have a soil selector switch, which I believe theirs is on the dial...I like the styling of the Maytag better...more pictures of your washer and his in action please.
Happy Easter,
Mike

Hey Mike

If I'm not mistaken I believe it has a separate soil selector switch, I was to tickled pink that we was at sears, I will defiantly post pics and a video of both machines, I'm thinking the action of the TAA is gonna be more aggressive than the one that is in my whirltag. What do you think Mike?

Happy Easter to you as well :).

Triple action agitator.........

will have more turnover than the regular dual action in your Maytag....this is based on my experience having had both types of agitators...Triple Action in a Kenmore, and Dual Action in a WP....I still like you washer better though!

Dual action vs. Triple action agitators

revvinkevin's profile picture

As Mike stated, the added difference of the "triple" action agitator the up and down movement in addition to the DA.   This occurs WHEN and IF it's trying to move something large, like a comforter for example, that doesn't "want" to move down.   The auger moves up slightly (a 1/2 inch maybe) as it's turning, then it will pull back down after the item starts moving.

I have a Kenmore Elite Catalyst washer with this "triple action" agitator.    Personally I don't see how it makes this agitator more aggressive, or more gentle, the action is exactly the same as the DA agitator.   It's just a "marketing exclusive" Sears wanted for their WP built KM machines over the similer WP product.

My boyfriend

Just got his new kenmore washer today, and after I unboxed it and got it installed, I did a load in her, and I must say I am very impressed with it, the turnover is AMAZING, better than my maytag, I'm very tempted to return the whirltag and get the Kenmore, besides I love the blue agitator, and it fills full of water. I so wanna take return the maytag for this one. Imma post a video soon I promise. For now here is a pic.

KEEP THE MAYTAG!!!

The Maytag has a ten year motor warranty and tub warranty as well....Sears is only one year on the whole unit....you could just buy the agitator and install in your machine.
Just my advice.... The Maytag, to me, is more sturdy looking and nicer looking than the Kenmore, besides the Maytag has a porcelain top, and the Kenmore is a painted top.

You're going to love this washer. I keep seeing videos of the HE models operating, and hearing horror stories about them, and it makes me love my WP even more. The ONLY thing I hate about it is the restricted inlet valve. I timed the other day and it took over 15 minutes for each fill, making the entire cycle exactly 1 hour and 10 minutes. I remember our KitchenAid taking not even 5 mins to fill. It makes no sense why they would restrict it, because the washer is going to fill up and use the same water regardless of how fast, but I figure it's a marketing trick. If someone notices that it takes forever to fill, and they don't understand how the machine works, they'll misunderstand that it's using a ton of water and think that they need a more expensive HE model. That being said, if anyone discovers a way to open up the flow a bit, let us all know.

i removed the restrictors already its basically two orange plastic inserts with a rubber washer on it.
1 remove the hoses
2 remove the plastic double screens
2 using s small flat head screwdriver pull out the orange plugs with the rubber washer viola high water pressure

That's really all it is? Goodness, I want to try this now. I assume there's no issue with it overflowing the spout assembly? I know that this one is already splashy with what little flow it has now, so I don't want water spewing backwards or anything haha. But I'm about to perform this surgery on mine so we'll see how it goes. Anything is better than a 1:10 hour cycle just because the fills are each over 15 minutes.

AMAZING!!!

murando531's profile picture
You sir are a life saver!!! I honestly thought I was going to have to take the inlet assembly off to figure it out. This whole "procedure" took about 5 minutes. It's crazy that those tiny inserts made that big a difference in flow!! Now my washer is filling up like our old KitchenAid used to. It even fans out a bit with warm water on! I just did a test fill on Super water level and it finished in about 3 minutes, compared to 15+ before. It's insane that these simple pieces are what's causing people to think their washers are using too much water, and tricking them into thinking they need an HE. Thank you so much for the advice!

Post# 754098 , Reply# 36   5/1/2014 at 08:22 (3,619 days old) by WP-Dude22 (Trinidad and Tobago )

yep our water pressure isn't so hard but it fills faster :D when the pump comes on it fans out but we don't have hot water here and whirlpool ATC tends to cycle hot then cold so they are never on at the same time in our top-load he (agitator model) WTW4850xq
