Your 701 washer is a Phase 2 machine. U.S. models don't have the front pump-access panel. I have a GWL08 which is a Phase 4. It's 14-1/2 years old and has had one repair thus far, replacement of the pump in Oct 2011. It went to live with my sister/bro-in-law a a few months ago. Also have an IWL12 (Phase 6) and DEGX1 SmartLoad dryer, both bought in 2004. No repairs on the washer. I completely disassembled the dryer earlier this year to deal with lint accumulation impeding airflow in the outlet duct housing, found one of the elements was broken, and replaced the drum bearing at the opportunity although it wasn't significantly worn. SmartLoad Pictorial And a DD603 bought in August 2003, no repairs on it. I also have a GWL11 awaiting refurbishment, given to me by a friend. It developed a problem with draining and he bought a new machine (typical consumer, replace instead of repair). The pump runs so the problem probably is a clogged or bad diverter. |

I've only seen one and was fastenated by the top loading system and how they made the drum 'close up' when tumbling. Of course, I had to tear it apart to watch it. Pretty neat system. Was surprised by what seemed a small lint catching system (a cup?) you'll never see WhirlTag come up with something that spiffy...

I bought this 2004 F&P "Intuitive eco" washer (model 1WL12) and "Smartload" gas dryer (model DGGX1) July of last year.
I ran probably 8-10 loads through the washer with no issues, but the dryer managed only 2 loads before it stopped heating. I'd like to get the problem figured out and start using it again!
I sold the washer to a co-workers ex (she needed it more than I did) and it's been working well for her since.

Thanks for the link Louis. It takes me directly to the US site. Now go and get that top loader - it's only a hundred bucks. So, what happened to the top loading dryers? They are nowhere to be seen. Is anyone aware why they've been discontinued? |

I read somewhere in passing that the topload platform was discontinued because they couldn't be easily modified to meet the latest, more stringent revision on dryer safety/fire requirements. Possibly there are more considerations involved than just that, don't know. The elements are rated 15 amps and 5.8 amps, the motor is 1.6 amps ... which totals 22.4 amps. My DEGX1 is labeled 24 amps, which calls for a 30 amp circuit. |

... couldn't it be just trasformed to run at 20A by "cutting of" the smaller heater? |

30 amp electric dryer circuits are a standard thing in U.S. home wiring. The only reason it wouldn't be present in any given home (that has laundry equipment) is if the dryer is gas instead of electric. Electric ranges are 50 amp. My house has 200 amp service to the main breaker box. Range is 50 amp. A/C compressor is 60 amp, back-up heat strips is a bank at 60 amps (incl blower) and a bank at 30 amps. Water well is 30 amp. Septic system is 30 amp. Water heater (tankless) is 120 amp. There's a 50 amp circuit that was run to the garage to support the equipment in case a pool is added, which I won't ever do so we split it to a 240v 30 amp circuit to run an extra dryer in the garage, and a 20 amp 120v circuit. And all the 120v 20 amp branch circuits for household lights and outlets. |

All I can say is looks can be deceiving. Machine looks clean, but underneath, oh boy! ;)
Hope you manage to get it off - A bit of heavy-handedness with the bleach should do the trick, IMO. |

11 Year old Aqua Smart washer and matching dryer still working perfectly. Only one repair to replace a dryer element. I sold this set to my niece when we bought our Electrolux IQ set. |
