I have a matching set, both brown in color. Both work and are in pretty good shape for being ~ 50yrs old. The washer has leak, which I was going to try to repair. Since I don't really know what I am doing, it might be better if I left it alone and let somebody that has the know-how make the repair to be sure it is done correctly.
Anyway, I have no need for this vintage pair, but think they are a rather cool set. Anybody interested in purchasing?
Will try to add pictures soon.
Thanks

When you post the photos, please also include the model & serial numbers from each.

Thanks.

Serial #'s - washer 385916KS / dryer 997430MF
I got the leak stopped, but discovered the belt that moves the agitators is broken. It is dry and brittle due to age. Checking into replacement tomorrow.
I have no idea on price, way out of my element here. I bought them as a joke for my son. He was moving out of the house for the first time, and was whining about needing a washer and dryer in his new place. He didn't really appreciate the humor. Tell me what you are willing to pay ?

Back of washer. (If I could figure out how to load more than one pic at a time, I would. My tech ability is as limited as my washer/dryer knowledge.)

Last pic. Washer with tubs open. I tried the washer, and both tubs drain appropriately, and the spin tub spins rapidly as it should. The skinny yellow tubing in the bottom of the wash tub is the broken belt that I am going to try to replace.
Thanks for looking.

The washer was built: August 1970, the dryer: March 1971.

The drive belt for the washer is NLA (no longer available), but if you are handy, you can make a new belt if you have the correct materials.

As for price, based on the condition, I'd say what ever you paid for them, or no more than $50 for both.

I am not interested however as I already have a set.

I figured the belt was no longer available. May try to figure out another solution. I have very little in them. Want them out of my garage, but hate to just throw them in the dump.

The belt part

Belts can be fabricated. I ordered mine through a motor repair shop.
PLEASE don't dispose these. Someone please take these and give them some love!

I'm moving to LA in a few months. If you can keep it and if someone can help me fixing it, I'll be really glad to have both machines.

Kevin, how handy are you with these machines? Can you help me restoring? I'm seriously thinking of having them as daily drivers instead of purchasing the Haier.

Darryl, do you have some space to store them for about 3 or 4 months, please?

Parts

I just heard that Sears parts online has a few parts for these. No pics or belts but the diverter valve is available, Haven't checked them yet. I am sure someone here knows.
Kevin, do you have any idea of the years these were made and the # of units made?
Just curious.

I just realized that the machines are more than 100 miles away from LA.

Freight costs will be prohibitive... I'm sorry, I'll have to let this chance go.

I hope they can find a good home.

Hoping to find a home for this set. My son is working on finding a replacement belt. Just too cool and rare to just toss in the dump. I have been to two different appliance repair shops, both have been working on appliances for >30 years, and neither person had ever seen a set like these. Gonna try posting in some other places and hope for the best. Thanks for your comments/information.

I still have this fancy little set. I have not had time to pursue getting a replacement belt for the washer. The actual belt is no longer made, so gonna have to be creative. I would like to get this set out of my house, but again, hate to just junk them. Any suggestions?

Would a automotive belt work? Maybe if you took the remainders of your belt to one of those places they could size it up for you? That would work if it's not the "slip" kind of belt. Someone else here could answer that question.

Would a automotive belt work?

revvinkevin's profile picture

In a word: no.

There is no pulley adjustment or belt tensioner so the belt has to stretch somewhat to fit over the pulley.   An automotive belt doesn't have any "stretch", so you wouldn't be able achieve the correct tension on the pulleys if you managed to get the belt onto them.

Cannot speak to the Maytag desgin

launderess's profile picture
But the Hoover TT belts aren't entirely smooth, at least the NOS versions one has in stash.

To OP: Maytag came late to the twin tub/compact laundry game and left it early. Unlike Hoover units which were sold all over the world the Maytag set was strictly USA and perhaps Canada. Because they were not around very long again unlike Hoover the supply of NOS spares was limited and has been decreasing to the point of almost nil as the years pass. Your best bet would be to contact an *older* appliance parts and service place such as Parma Parts (see archives here in the group) to see what if anything they have. Failing that maybe they can suggest work around.

Lack of spare parts has sent more Maytag TT washers to the knacker's yard than anything else I should think. Once major parts like tub seals, belts and so forth go there really are few options. That is unless you can find another machine to take parts from or build one good machine out of parts from two.

where did these end up?

I wonder where these ever went to. I hope they did not go to the scrapper. Just to far away to ship to CT!
