" When my wife and I bought our home five years ago, we were astonished by the fridge and stove that were in the basement. We were even more excited when we found out that they conveyed with the home! It was the first appliance set that the homeowner had purchased with her late husband in the 1950's. While we really enjoyed having them in our finished basement, our felt need to simplify is having us put them on the market.
The set (if you can call it that?) is a fridge and stovetop oven made by Kelvinator in the late 1940's as best as I can tell. Considering their age and use, both are in good condition! The stovetop oven, to my awareness works perfectly! (I've tested the stovetop but never used the oven. I was told that it works by the previous owner) Known defects: there is some aging/yellowing on the enamel and plastic, a knob is missing on the timer, and there is a worn spot on the front right of the appliance (next to the outlets). We used the fridge for several years as a beer/drinks fridge and loved it! Unfortunately, the temperature regulator burned out and while the fridge turns on, the temperature cannot be controlled as is. My attempts to repair it were meager and unsuccessful. Someone with good wiring/appliance knowledge may be able to repair it. Otherwise it has a new seal on the door and remains in good shape! I have noticed that vigorous cleaning of the fridge (water & rag only!) wears off the original paint. I'm asking $700 for the set or $450 for an individual piece. Please email with any questions. Appliances will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please be prepared to pay with cash. " CLICK HERE TO GO TO ovrphil's LINK on Annarbor Craigslist |

Nice matching/coordinated set there. Too bad the cold control is toast. That makes the price kind of steep.
We had an old beater yellow version of that fridge in the basement for a while when I was a kid. I think my parents gave it away to a family in need. It made an interesting rumbling sound when it ran. The door handle works the same way as the ones Mercedes has used for years -- just pull on it and the door will follow. No twisting or yanking or pushing of buttons.
I really love the knobs on the stove. Different from what you find on most ranges from that period. |
