I've been asked to 'have a look at' a Hotpoint WDL640P washer/dryer, which was reported to 'trip' the Earth protection 'As soon as it started filling'. Unfortunately, it has been removed from service, and stored where there is neither electricity nor water, so a 'working test' will be a little 'difficult'. I've had the top and back covers off, all appears dry and clean, and there was no report of 'incontinence' ;-)

My initial thought, prior to going back with my 'Megger' is a pinhole in the heater sheath. Is there anything 'model specific' which I should consider investigating as a priority??

Many thanks

Dave T

I would check the door inter-lock and mains suppressor along with wiring, if it is the heater I would expect the machine too fill and nock out a few tumbles to mix in the detergent before the heater kicks in.

Just my thoughts

Door interlock

Thanks, Lee!! That's one thing I would probably never have thought to check... Timely, too.... I'm hoping to get back there again later today, 'Megger' in hand.

All best

Update

Managed to have a quick look over the weekend. It appears to be (no 'Torx' drivers with me to dismantle the air duct) the 'Dryer' heater element has 'gone to earth'. I'm expecting a bit of a mess in the air duct, so will be sure to have a camera with me when I open it. Watch this space..... ;-)

All best
