bajaespuma - lol ! I never know if these have a place in the hearts of vintage dishwasher fans because I thought(correct me if I'm wrong) these are quite loud beasts. :-)

They are usually louder than most because there is never an opportunity to insulate the tank which is, almost always, the cabinet. I just have a thing for the top-loaders and have found them ridiculously useful. I owned a KitchenAid like this one once and it wasn't loud at all.

As you might expect, I have a bunch of GE top-loaders, built-ins and portables, but only one Maytag and one KitchenAid. I'd love to find a newer KitchenAid, a Whirlpool and I'm always looking for more Maytag WP-600's, the largest home dishwasher I've ever seen.

The original top loading portable, the KD2P model was perhaps the only portable dishwasher with a doublewall porcelain inside and out tub. The KD2P machine is very quiet and can be further quieted by placing a folded towel or a stove mat on the lid which is just a single porcelain panel. If you look down in the slots of the steam vent in the handle escutcheon, you can feel the water driven steam coming up during water circulation. It is interesting how much taller the tank is on this machine than on their front load dishwashers of the same period. It has super flexibility for loading with the three piece removable upper rack. Cookie sheets can stand on end at the sides of the tub and if you have several, you can leave out one of the side baskets of the upper rack and line up cookie sheets like soldiers. In my opinion, it has a much larger capacity than the newer style shown here with the split half upper rack, even if it is less convenient to load.

May have to consider picking one up now that am in the market for a "new" dw.

Remember awhile back there was a new one of the KA model shown above on eBay or CL somewhere in New Jersey IIRC. Guess the lady of the house got it as a present or something and found no use for it so that was that. Anyway what one didn't like is when the group informed the unit did not heat water for wash or rinses. The heating element only came on to dry dishes. That I could not have since during the warmer months when the boilers are off hot water temps are kind of low. I'd be purging that line before each cycle with such a ds.

The Whirlpool and GE "Mobile Maid" dws are interesting a Moi as well. But think KA units stand a better chance of having spare parts lying about.

Anyone have

a replacement plastic fascia for this machine. I have one, but the plastic broke off in pieces in transport.

We were so disappointed when it happened! The machine works great either way!
