I thought maybe some of you would like to see a picture I found of one of the appliance stores in my hometown. It was taken well before my time, but I remember the store in the 1980s, when I was growing up.

I think that's a Jungers oil burner just to the left of the door. Our neighbors had a dark brown model that looked very similar.

Photo to share - another appliance store...

bradross's profile picture
this one, a Speed Queen dealer, in Princeton, Illinois. I imagine it was fun selling wringer washers in those days, due to the fact that not everybody had one yet, and it would have been a big investment for the average person/family. Imagine the excitement of a housewife transitioning from a washboard and tub to a new wringer washer!

I love old photos - that one you have is at Christmas and I was just looking at the Christmas bulb offering from 58limited.

I thought the photo deserved a closeup view. Thanks everyone - it would be fun to have a thread started about old appliances stores - washers and dryers, tvs, etc.

Since we are sharing appliance store pics,
Here is the window display of J-G Appliance. It was my grandparents store, they were GE-Hotpoint dealers.

This was from 1958.

Fun to see things closer up -now if it was a little sharper, we could really have fun.

1962 - the year before I made my first Heathkit Walkie-Talkie from a kit.

Brad, thanks for posting that picture. I live 23 miles from Princeton and that building is still around. There was a green SQ in the garage here when I moved in and was thrown out before I moved in in 1980. Darn, I wish I had that. Gary

You're more than likely right, Hans. I know they sold GE appliances there - we had them.

Picture of my father from 1946. This was our family business, Acme Electronic, in Springfield, Mass. My father started fixing radios in 1938. We stayed in business for 65 years. The store is now a barber shop.

One more picture, showing the entire storefront. My father started in just the left-part of the store, then taking over the entire building. We lived behind the store.
