I have no idea what caused it. I have been very careful when opening and closing the door, etc. It just seems that one morning I noticed it was cracked. I took the control panel off and put some duct tape behind it to strenghten it a bit and hopefully eliminate anymore damage, but I'd also love to find a replacement for mine.
You can see the crack on mine but with the tape it's not as noticeable. |

Some good quality cyanoacrylate glue can make cracks much less visible on clear plastic. I was even able to make one completely invisible on the clear control panel my 1965 Frigidaire washer, but usually, they're much improved but still noticeable! The glue also sometimes "melts" the plastic where it's applied and leaves a white film around where it was used but that can be removed by sanding/polishing. |
