Have seen several w1918's with or without their matching dryers on eBay, CL and so forth. None seem to have sold.
Part of this could be the electrical requirements, concern over capacity, location etc.... but the one thing that sticks in one's mind is age. IIRC the 19XX series has moved into the "not truly supported" phase by Miele USA. By that one means parts are no longer being sent or can be obtained from Germany thus whatever is in the USA warehouses or elsewhere is all she wrote. Once that supply is exhausted that will be that. Also Miele USA does not even train new techs on the "older" series from what one went through with our W1070. That is anything from the 19xx and before such as the 10xx washers and matching dryers they don't know from Adam. It is even difficult to find a tech in their telephone customer service department that has seen much less worked on the older units. In both field and in house the older generation of Miele techs that know the early appliances are either retiring or dying off. There are a few left but they can be hard to pin down and still must work under MieleUSA's corporate rules. Finally with Miele offering the 30XX series for many persons the need to go with 208v-240v where it does not exist is now moot. That is unless such persons know what they want and are seeking such units. Finally, finally if you read around the Internet MieleUSA's customer service is not winning them any prizes with a few consumers. There seem to be reports of early 30XX and 4XXX series washing machines and or matching dryers having problems that pop up after the warranty period has expired, but while the units are < five years old. After paying dearly for a washer or dryer no one wants to hear it needs a new part or parts that will cost equally dear. |
