Just for fun...

I emailed this seller and very nicely told him this solid state Astro Sonic stereophonic Magnavox was not from 1947. He non-politely told me to MYOB which I suppose he was entitled to do.

Love that STEREO,SOLID STATE 1947 Magnavox Hi-Fi set-Learned something new!!!Where have I been all those years-stereo and solid state was invented earlier than we though-those innovative folks at Magnavox!!Nice,though-but 1967 would be a more likely year that one was out.The Wilmington one-OK but overpriced-esp if the TT and tuner don't work. Will deduct a LOT from the price since I will have to fix that. For my $150-EVERYTHING on the set should work perfectly.Clue-the open back cabinets on some of those units--they WERE NOT the high end models-the Concert Grand models were-sealed speaker enclosures-cast frame 15" woofers, cast metal horn tweeter(Both usually from Jensen)And Bi-Amped.ANY of those speakers are being seeked out by G-Fiddle amp fans. The horns were used in the treble section of the Leslie speaker systems. One G-Fiddilist I knew loved playing his "axe" thru the Leslie system-usually organists played thru those. The unit had the rotating treble horns and rotating baffle in front of the 15"woofer-had two 6550 tubed amps.Neat unit!!Sounded really good!

Well they wanted to be ready

so they introduced this LP changer equipped console a year prior to when the LP was released. Its good to be prepared,

Course its even more impressive to be solid state the same year as the transistor was invented.

I'd say 1965-67

The Magnavox Concert Grand, at least the 1959 model, used Electro Voice T-35 drivers with Magnavox-designed horns, not the less expensive Jensens. I think this is a little known fact. The "sealed" speaker chambers were connected by a center tunnel. The horns as well as the bass speakers were slightly different on each side. Magnavox felt this was necessary since when standing in front of a concert orchestra the various sounds were not evenly divided. A lot of thought went into the CG's.

Interesting speaker facts about the CG-they used the better EV horns.Didn't know this until now.Good thing to check for if you buy a CG set.Make sure it has the orig speakers. You will of course have to remove the back covers on the speaker enclosures to check. The Biamped power amps were a really good feature of the Magnavox CG units-a High end Hi-Fi feature.
