I've seen this come up as the POD before and I always wondered about the Universal automatic washer's 'agitating basket' described in the ad text - was this similar to the Apex washer??  Could have actually been an Apex with the Universal name on it?

I was curious because the Universal small appliances were rebadges (the Universal stand mixer and blender were Dormeyers for example).

"Sun Sweet" feature on the dryer interesting. Wonder what that was? Advertising and marketing is so boring now. I wish we would go back to the old style. If manufacturers would start naming things with the words Astro, O-Matic, Super, O-Rama, etc. I bet sales would pick up. I think people are subconsciously attracted to that stuff.

I believe the "Sun Sweet" feature would have been an ozone bulb like many dryers of the period were equipped with.

Yes - made by Apex!  This is Robert's 53 Apex washer in action toward the end of an agitation cycle.  It tended to splash away most of the tub-full of water which we think may have hurt it's performance rankings but with today's HE detergents, it does a good job cleaning.

With the ballast pockets on the outside of the spin-tub, it's one of the best balancing washers I've ever peered into.

Aha!

Wow, I guess seeing Robert's Apex in action last year had indeed planted that seed in my head!

It really is a unique design - how cool would it be to actually find one...

And no, don't get to thinking that I have one stashed in my top secret storage location (just off Dufferin Road in Stanstead) - trust me, if I did, I'd be shouting on the rooftop!  LOL

Today is the 28th. You might want to edit that while you can.

What about the one cabinet for both of them? Wild Optimism and heavy moving.

There were two Universal major appliance lines. One was mostly electric with ranges and laundry stuff and then the gas Universal with the builtin cooktops and ovens that later, I think, also included electric builtins.

The action of that Apex Bouncing Basket washer looks like a giant Lyman cartridge case polisher-tumbler!Also such tumblers were used for rock tumbling-polishing.Faster than rotary drum tumblers!Hope none of those Apex machine were used for those "other" uses!Like the idea of the water balancing for the drum!
