The POD, this Norge washer and dryer set is the one I would probably pick if given a choice of having any vintage set. I have had a couple of the dryers, but have never even seen one of the washers. I think they must have had servicing problems and bit the bullet long before the dryers did. In fact, the dryers were practically indestructable and lasted for many many years. The gas one I had of this vintage would dry a heavy heavy load of towels or jeans in 20 minutes!

i've never seen a norge washer like the one in the picture of the day, but i REALLY love all the option features that this norge washer has. to me, it seems to have & match all the options of a maytag 806 washer, except for load size selection (unless i missed seeing on the norge, where you can select the size of the load??).

My partner and I bought this exact Norge pair in 1984. Although the washer guzzled lots of water and was noisy, it made short work of cleaning my heavily soiled work clothes. We did soon learn to use the slow agitate and fast or slow spin with most other loads. The wash action was truly aggressive. The positive air flow dryer totally blew. Literally! Sometimes, when the lint filter would start to get full, the door would blow open.

That should, of course, have said Wards Signature pair. Made by Norge, or as it was called in Utah, Narge.
